Can you guys evaluate my school list and let me know if I should add any others or take off any? I am an uncompetitive applicant (cGPA 3.42, sGPA 3.35, 31S MCAT) and will be applying to 12+ DO schools, but I qualified for the AMCAS fee waiver, so I thought I would give it a shot for around 14-16 MD schools. I basically chose schools with the lowest GPA/MCAT ranges and excluded any public schools that were not in California. I added UC Davis and Irvine because I'm a CA resident and I felt like I should include them even if I have next to 0% chance of being accepted at one of those schools.

Here is my list:
-Albany Medical College
-Creighton
-Drexel
-Hofstra
-USC Keck
-Loyola
-New York Medical College
-Oakland University
-Rosalind Franklin
-Saint Louis University
-Tulane
-UC Davis
-UC Irvine
-Virginia Tech
-Wake Forest

That's a good list, and with good essays and compelling stories I think you might have a shot at the UC's. Your numbers aren't prohibitively low.

drop wake... its semi expensive secondary and they'll cut you after they cash your check.

What about penn state, toledo, and oakland?

I would maybe include Virginia Commonwealth University and Rush

Consider Cooper Medical in Jersey, and ditto on Commonwealth and Rush

Thanks guys. Any more suggestions?

Also was thinking of adding HBCUs. I do have a first-generation, low-income background and wish to serve in underserved areas, so I thought it would match well with their mission statements, although I am not URM.

then I realize you were that thread's OP too.

You can try, but I wouldn't bank on it if you don't have much experience working with underserved. I have done quite a bit of work with my underserved population (6 years work + 1 year volunteer) and I did not hear a word back from Howard last cycle. Doesn't hurt to try if you think you have the credentials.

Just curious, any particular reason to drop wake, outside of the expensive secondary? Was considering sending an app there.

Also, some suggestions:

EVMS
Vermont
Louisville

+1 add VCU and Rush. Definitely drop Wake Forest they will just take your money and then reject you. I personally would take a credit card loan and add 10 MD schools. I think spending 750-1000 bucks is worth it especially if it gets you in this cycle and saves you 150k+ in physician pay.

Don't apply to Meharry or Howard but apply to Morehouse. Morehouse is open to non-URM while the others not so much. I also think EVMS and NYMC would be a good add on top of VCU and Rush.

Thanks for the all the advice guys. I was wondering if the AMCAS fee waiver would also cover the secondary fees as well?

Some schools will accept the fee waiver and waive secondaries however some won't.
