So I decided to post a link to an old thread started on the medical forum about MD's and MD students regretting their decisions on choosing the MD path. I am doing this because there have been many threads here recently mentioning how the pursuit of happiness (or insert desired noun here) starts by getting an MD. I would say to those people to read this thread.

If you are not genuinely interested in optometry and using it as a consolation prize because MD school didn't work out for some reason or another, then you might be just as miserable as some of the folks in this link.

FYI, this post is not intended to bash MD's or MD students but to show you that people can be unhappy with any career regardless of their educational achievements.

Haha, I read through that thread, it seems that everyone is just listing off what they would rather have done instead of medicine.

I'd rather own a boat and take people diving with great whites, preferably with my own reality dating show, alas I felt opt was a more stable career 😀

I don't understand how the link relates to optometry. 😕

I guess the almighty mega awesome MDs also feel unappreciated and regret going into medicine...this is so surprising😱

Why should medicine be the perfect job?

MDs have the responsibility to go in and deal with sick patients that no one else has the skill or desire to deal with.

I was being sarcastic!

hmmm...funny how all of those that considered optometry inferior are not commenting in this thread.

Of course there are MDs that are unhappy, but I'm sure there are many MDs who love their job and would do it a million times over. I still don't get how people don't understand the fact that there is not one job that is suited for everyone. There are actors that are unhappy, there are musicians that are unhappy, CEOs hate their jobs, dentists too, pharmacists, optometrists, MDs.... on and on and on. If there is a magic career that makes everyone inconsiderably happy and wealthy and has no hardships, I would love to hear what it is. The point is, do what makes you happy, stop comparing yourself to everyone around you and pick a career based on the right reasons.

I was agreeing with you. I simply began my comment with a rhetorical question.

What's funny is that there seems to be multiple active threads in at least two of the optometry "child" forums that seem to be addressing this very same topic.

So once you've contributed to this thread in this forum, you can skip on down to the pre-opt forum and make the same remark in a thread over there....
