Have any of you guys ever increased your grade from a low grade to a high grade when going from the first part of a class to the second. For example, this past semester I made a C+ in Organic Chemistry II. Towards the end when we started doing synthesis my grades started going higher I even made a 90 on 1 of the 4 tests and a 80 on the last test. I really want to make atleast a B+ in Organic Chemistry II to show medical schools that I do undestand the material.

Have any of you been in a similar situation. If so what did you do to change your study habits, what kind of motivation did you use? If you have any other advice that you can give me, I would really appreciate it.

In short, yes. All my grades show a significant upwards trend.

Let me start off by saying you are posting this in the wrong forum.

I did, though the increase wasn't that great. A few "B+"s to "A"s. For me, it wasn't so much a change in study habits as it was a change in material and getting used to the teacher. I will mention some things I think can help you improve. First off, studying in a group with people of various abilities is great. It can aid you viewing a problem in a different light or you can learn something you didn't know or you may end up teaching one of your partners. Another good thing about groups is that you can motivate each other. For instance, with my insane O-chem class (this was far beyond any other O-chem I've heard of) I became part of a tight-knit group. We all helped each other and motivated each other during our hellish year. The key is finding what works for you.

I got a straight C (we don't use the plus/minus system) in Organic Chemistry 1. In all honesty I didn't even know what I was supposeto study that semester- I looked at bond angles lol...

I got an A in Organic Chemistry 2. I worked m tail end of but I knew that reactions were key and found some awesome friends to study with. For me that is my biggest college accomplishment- sure I have done good research, had great EC's, worked, etc. But figuring out how to overcome what I thought was impossible was awesome. And through it I learned how to study for the first time in my life which is helping me in other courses now..

In organic the thing I changed was focusing on reading the material and working as many problems as possible! I notecarded key structures (xylene, toluene, etc) and then all the major reactants, and major types of reactions. I went through those every day... I also have found reading through material before class is helpful and then the second reading I outline (didn't in Organic more for biology) that way I pick the key points. I re-read a couple more times and go over notes. It is very time consuming but its the only way I can really grasp it to make the A.
