So with all of the accpetances coming out... let's start a thread so everyone can discuss where they will be attending next year, how are they preparing, etc. etc. It is so exciting that we are going to med school next year! Pretty soon we will be doctors! 🙂

Good idea! LECOM-Erie PBL! I have no idea how to start preparing!

Pretty sure I'm going to LMU-DCOM!

Stoked! 😀

Having a hard time deciding between LECOM-E PBL and CCOM. I would really like to interview at NYCOM, too.

In terms of preparation, I think I need to read Biochemistry and Microbiology textbooks cause those classes seem to cause a lot of trouble lol.

And I need to start a facebook so I can find a roommate lol.

Ha! I've started reading an Anatomy textbook since I graduated in psychology and never took anatomy!

If the portal is accurate, I am accepted and will be attending CCOM as part of the class of 2016!.

Trying to figure out the best place to live. They have campus housing so it would either be that or a nearby apartment or house. I don't want to drive far at all due to the time that med school demands. Once I figure this out I'd like to make some money and then travel!

Haven't decided class of 2016 🙂
Right now DMU is the front runner, but I liked LMU as well. Interviews still at CCOM and KCOM. CCOM was my top choice coming into this so we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
I've pretty much ruled out NSU, VCOM and AZCOM for various reasons.
I just want to be in med school already!! Im tired of my job.

If I go to CCOM, I think I will live on campus to be close to classes, etc. at least my first year there. Anyone know what the dorms are like on campus?

I haven't decided either; accepted at NSU, AZCOM, and KCUMB and still interviewing at Touro-CA. Torn between NSU and AZCOM at the moment, although I think I'm leaning more towards NSU. Mind if I ask why you ruled out NSU and AZCOM?

Honestly I feel like its all about finding the right fit for you. I heard great things about AZCOM before I interviewed and was really excited to go there but then ended up not liking it on my interview day. I think part of it is because I really fell in love with DMU first. AZCOM isnt as technologically advanced as DMU or LMU and its just really far away. Plus I wasn't a fan of the hot and dry heat..fall is my favorite season and I need cold weather. And the fact that no med students came and talked to us didn't give me a great impression either.
As for Nova once again the lack of seasons in Florida is a problem. I also didn't like having to wear blue scrubs every day or the things that students said about the biochem dept. I would rather go to a school strong in every dept.. I did like nova though and would be happy to go there, but I liked LMU and DMU better...

Got into MSU COM really fast, it's my top choice school - didn't pay or submit for any other of the 11 supplementals I had. 😀

I figure I can start preparing.... but maybe the best way to prepare would be to relax and take some time off with lots of vacations before I start? Going to LA next week, maybe Australia in December and Europe in the spring! 🙄 😎

I would love to make it to either of these places before school starts. Any specifics on where you'll go??

In Australia, I have family in the Sydney/Melbourne area. In Europe, its pretty cheap to travel within the EU when you are there. I'll definitely stop by Spain to see my friend in Barcelona, maybe visit Ibiza. I'll probably go to Amsterdam 😀 and I would like to go to France (family in and around Paris).

Was accepted to MSUCOM last year and deferred so I've had lots of time to "prepare." By prepare.....that means I'm finishing a masters in public health and traveling as much as I can in the meantime. I've been able to check off Seattle, San Fran, Brazil, and Cancun off my list since my acceptance. Off to Puerto Rico next month and hoping for Ghana in the spring 🙂 I also work less hours for as long as I can get away with it, and spend more time going out with friends and catching up on sleep 🙂

I've had so many friends at MSUCOM and other schools tell me that prepping academically is a waste of time. I plan on diving all in when I start school so for now I'd rather spend my time with mindless entertainment and relaxation 🙂

Oooh would love to go back to Spain! Never been to Barcelona, unfortunately. I'm trying to decide between a return trip to Brazil and Europe--the only place I've been to in Europe is Spain (most of my time in Madrid) 🙂

Sounds like a great time. Good luck and here's to "living the dream" this next year before school starts. 👍

I've never been to Madrid! How was it? Barcelona is always fun, my friend loves it there. I did a study abroad program in Italy and our class was Tuesday, Wednesday pass/fail - so we would just leave and travel the EU for the weeks in between and come back before class (or sometimes just skipped, our professors over there hated us ). If you like Cancun, Ibiza is Cancun on crack and then some.

Thanks! I'm only doing it to keep my sanity and furthermore get the best out of my medical education! See what a great student I am?

To the thread starter, I agree with this. I'm not sure if reading the required texts etc. would be the best use of your time before med school. Even in med school you don't always do all the required/recommended readings, etc. I think that you should just mentally and physically prepare yourself, get your self in order before you start. It may seem silly, but really try to make some self improvements. This will make you have less things to worry about while you are in med school. You really don't wanna get burned out, 4 years is a long time. Just relax (congratulations! you deserve it!) and know you have a nice secure spot for med school next year 😉

they are your basic xl twin bed, two desks, two closets and two dressers. plus some shelves above the built in desks. you share a bathroom with a suite mate but there is only one of you on either side. they do try to pair you up with a suite mate who is in the same program as you as well as same year so you could potentially have a built in study partner.
hth some

Been accepted at LECOM-B and NSUCOM.

I've declined my seat at LECOM and plan to attend Nova for various reasons.

That is some pretty solid advice. Thanks! And congratulations to you too!

Hmmm does not seem too luxurious lol. But I guess that will get me to study more 😉

LECOM-E here. Good to see a fellow Mormon starting there too!

Ha! I think I sat next to you during the presentation. It could've been someone else though. Congrats on getting accepted!

Yeah that was me, small world. Have you sent in your deposit yet? I just did, it's official.

Yea, me too. Its in the mail. I bet your wife is stoked to be living close to home huh?

Class of 2016! I'm still deciding between DMU & CCOM! Anyone else in the same boat? Congrats everyone! 😀

Class of 2016 here! Still deciding between NSU and AZCOM...also curious if anyone is in the same boat as me

It seems like you have done a fantastic job of decompressing! I am quite jealous! I've done some foreign study in europe and made my around the USA but am very envious of where you've been!!! I hope to take some time off between now and med school and I'd like to find some more excuses to travel lol.

Definitely a crazy feeling! Love it though. I'll be seeing you next year in Des Moines!

**random question, but how do some of you have footers after all of your posts? I have been trying to figure this out, but have been unsuccessful...any tips? 🙂 Thanks!!

Go to your settings and add a signature.

BTW, that feeling ends first week of school when reality hits. Having done this once before, I can tell you to enjoy your freedom now.

Thanks--I absolutely love to see the world! I end up working 90+ hour weeks for a few weeks at a time, and then i take a 2-3 off to relax and travel. I don't mind the long hours when it's needed so this method works well for me. Luckily, my job is super flexible so it's easy to take the time off. Your free time between now and med school should be reason enough to go!! 🙂

Is everyone else freaking out? Like holy s*** we are going to be doctors. Just typing that freaks me out.

haha I keep saying this. I just got my first acceptance letter yesterday. I thought I would cry or something, but instead I just keep wanting to pinch myself to make sure its really happening.

Accepted to KYCOM but and waiting on NOVA, OUCOM, Louisville (MD), and Kentucky (MD). Still a lot of waiting to be done.

BUT I'M GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!

I have not made a decision as to where I am going yet. When I make my decision, I am going to buy my parents sweatshirts with the school's logo on them for my parents. This is how they will know which school I chose 🙂

thesis what i did.
my entire family may or may not sport CCOM gear

Haha. I got my DMU one first which is the one I really wanted and I thought I would freak and I just sat there in silent shock.

I'm jealous of your DMU acceptance lol (good job!). Must be nice that it was the first one too so I wouldn't spend so much money running around. I used to not like purple...but I wouldn't mind wearing the color for the next 4 years 🙂 Guess you were right a few weeks ago saying something like "get in first" and then I can choose...cuz I sure messed up my KCUMB one when they had an interviewer throw me for a loop. I hope I'm ready for my DMU one next month. :scared:

MSUCOM!! My first choice!!

I am definitely in the holy **** phase right now. This applies to multiple things:
1.) Holy crap I got in
2.) Holy crap I am going to be a doctor
3.) Med school is going to be really, really hard

Also I need to find a place to live, and figure out how to pay for it...etc.

I have also been struggling with whether or not I should be reviewing pre-med stuff or relaxing or what? I am in an EMT-Basic class right now so that will hopefully keep my mind fresh from a medical standpoint.

I realize that EMT-B is not the same...the classes so far are really easy but I do get to have quite a bit of clinical experience while in the class and just the process of having homework/tests/classes is helpful to keep my mind working.

Oh come on. At least he is doing something medically related. I think that is great!

I think it is great, too. But, in terms of medical skills and knowledge, practice as an EMT-B is barely even medical experience. The only plus I see is being able to develop patient communication skills and developing a provider-patient relationship (things you don't learn in class; you actually have to volunteer/work somewhere to get this experience).

Anyways, don't take this the wrong way. I think it is great you are in an EMT program. You will enjoy the experience. I just hope you actually use the certification and aren't just getting it for resume purposes. That's all.

I have been accepted to LECOM-B and VCOM-CC! I definitely like LECOM better because of the PBL. For those of you who are going to matriculate to LECOM-B for the c/o 2016, we should start a facebook group!
