I have everything ready to be e-submitted right now on AADSAS, except for my DAT scores which I will be taking in July 18th. I noticed that I have to pay $714 to AADSAS and $600-700 for supplements, in total, for all the schools that I am applying to. That is a lot of money. The problem is if I apply now, and do poorly on the DATs, all that money will probably go to waste with no acceptances.

So the question is, should I wait until I get my scores back on July 18th so that I can choose whether or not to submit? Or should I risk it all and apply now and hope for the best for my DAT scores?

Will I be put at a disadvantage with my application for applying late?

Thanks

Just apply to one school now so your app can be verified and apply to the rest after you take the DAT. I'm not sure if any schools consider your app complete and begin reviewing it without DAT scores so it won't make a difference anyway. You just want your app to get sent out quickly after you take the DAT so contact schools to see if you can email or fax a copy of the unofficial DAT scores because it takes a while for the scores to be posted to AADSAS.

👍 One school is enough to get the app going and then add more schools later! good post!

So in other words, it won't make a difference if I apply to all schools at once or half the schools now? They won't even look at my application until everything is handed in?

Also, if I just apply to all the schools now, I can retake the DAT in October if it is bad. Isn't that another option?

It's an option. But pretty late. I mean, I've heard of people applying in November and getting in, but it's late nonetheless. Also, get rid of that pre-pharm status on your name. 👍

Schools wont review the file until its complete. It isn't deemed complete until the DAT score is in, if you take it as late as Oct you're risking not getting into dental school for 2013. Take it ASAP and it has to be in by mid August to maximize your shot at admission. October is way too late IMO.

I'm taking my DAT's on July 18th. I'm questioning if a retake is too late in October.

You should focus on knocking out that exam. How can you even think of a retake when you have yet to take the exam? lol

Just focus on the 1st exam and hope that your scores are good enough to not have to retake it. If necessary push it back a week to make sure you're well prepared, and you won't have to worry about a retake. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I'll try to knock this one out of the ball park.
