Excited I got into both, but which one would you choose?

Stats:
3.38 cGPA, 3.28 sGPA, 30Q Mkitty, Great EC, Volunteering, Shadowing, 3 years Research exp with 1 publicaiton.

Applying early and broadly in June. Would rather go to Tufts medical school and live in Boston, but the percentage of kids accepted to MD program from MBS class isn't too high, from what I hear. However, EVMS has a great linkage...

What do you guys think?

Sorry if this is a repeat thred

You should totally go to TUFTS. That way, I'd move up on the EVMS waitlist! haha jk =D

My honest opinion, choose whichever school you feel is the best fit for you. If you really want to stay in the Boston area, then go to TUFTS. If you feel the beach is for you, choose EVMS. Just because the linkage rate at TUFTS isn't too high, doesn't mean you absolutely won't get in. If you really want to get in, it'll show through your hard work in the program.

Hard choice, but I agree with above poster. I personally would go to Tufts due to the location.

City or Beach? uh, both! Im from South Florida!

Yeah I don't want to wait any longer to get into medical school. If I do Tufts MBS, I believe I could get into Tufts MD if I was an URM. However, I'm the complete opposite. I'm an Asian Indian. Paired with my stats, it gives me a more difficult time getting in. I also run the risk of not getting in anywhere next year and having to re-apply. Effin shoot me if I have to do that.

EVMS is pretty much guaranteed if you do well in the program. I talked to Dr. Meyer one day about re-taking my MCAT. I believe he is one of the guys who runs the program. He said my performance in the Medical Masters will factor more than anything else.

Since I have to do stellar in either program, I'm leaning towards the low risk EVMS, even though I rather be in Boston (ps I was waitlisted at Gtown, and I would pick that over Tufts). I can't afford to take an additional year off because I am already 2 years out of undergrad.

I don't know what ill do, but thanks for your help guys. I'm waiting on another post-bacc as well, so its gonna be a hard decision. Good luck VaBeachGrl007! Make sure you let Leah know how interested you are and continue with clinical experience. My essays were very detailed on what I did in the hospitals and labs, and they told me they really liked that. If that helps at all...

Thank you! & I spoke with Leah yesterday about my application. She was very nice, even though she had to break the news that I more than likely won't get in since I'm on the bottom third of the waitlist. But Leah asked me several questions like if I was going to retake the MCAT, if i was going to shadow anyone, and if I was planning on running rescue in VB. She told me I really need to aim for a 33 on my MCAT, to send in my med school LORs, and to update my resume as well.

I already sent Dr. Meyer a cute card explaining how EVMS is my top choice and why I want to get into the program. I plan on sending several of those cards through the summer lol. I'll probably also set up an interview with Dr. Meyer since I'm from around the area. I've heard of one person getting off the bottom third of the waitlist for EVMS and I'm really going to try to be that second person! =D

Dude, you can def get a 33. I went from a 20 the first time I took it to a 30 the second time. Berkley Review is the way to go. Kill that clinical experience and talk it up big time! You got this!

I would die if I got a 10 point jump like you! haha..I've taken the MCAT twice, went from a 24 to a 26 in two months. I'm planning on retaking it in July so I have a few months after I graduate to study. I also took the 8 month long Kaplan course, so I hope that'll help. But I'll definitely look into that Berkley Review..I've also thought about buying Exam Krackers for Verbal and Bio.

As far as clinical experience goes, I already have a ton. Volunteered on the VT rescue squad for 2 years (1100+ hrs), volunteered at two different hospitals (totaling 160 hours), worked at the Free Clinic for a semester, and observed two surgeries. I have yet to shadow, but my dad is thankfully hooking me up with an anestheologist that works at his hospital lol. But I'm still willing to run rescue in VB because it's so much fun and really a rewarding experience.

& I just realized how much entire summer is going to be consumed with studying, getting more clinical experience, and begging EVMS to take me lol.
