Has anybody heard from EVMS recently? I called today and it seems they are a week or more behind on decisions, anybody else have any info?

I interviewed 5 days before you, and I received an invite to preview weekend on Mar. 6. I then called and I was informed that I was very high on the WL.
I later received the official WL notification via snail mail. I honestly can't remember exactly what day I got the letter, and I don't have access to it right now to see when it was dated, but I know it was some time last week. So, if I were you, I would expect to hear something any day.
I just wrote a letter of interest...maybe I'll get off the WL soon.

Hey congrats! Yea I've heard that from a few people now who interviewed the week before, but I haven't heard anything from people in my week or after.. Doesn't look like a good sign though.

Hey everyone. I have some basic questions about the waitlist and would appreciate ANY help/input. I am not so knowledgable about how this stuff works so forgive me if my questions are very fundamental.

Anyway, how do you all know what position you are on the waitlist? I interviewed mid December and recieved a letter notifiying me of my waitlist status, but it did not mention anything about a rank. Are you all just calling to find out? And if so, who are you all calling?

If I find out soon and am high on the list (but not high enough to be offered a spot at the second look) should I ask about it or if I can come to the second look (or whatever its called)?

Finally, are you all writing letters of update/interest/intent now or later? And who are you writing them to? The head dean?

Thanks so much for anyfeed back you all can give, I need it!!

Hey lostboy call the admissions staff they're usually very nice in telling you whether your top 1/3, middle 1/3, or bottom. And if you want to send a letter of interest it should probably be to Dr. Solhaug (the dean of admissions). But ask the staff about the second look, they seem to be pretty accomodating 🙂

Call to see where you are on the WL. Don't worry about not being invited to Preview weekend. There are many people who will get into EVMS who have not been invited, I would bet. I wouldn't ask for an invite to Preview, but that's just me.
It's fine to just address a LOI to the admissions committee. You can send it to the regular admissions office email, as a word document, and they will print it out and place it in your file. Or you can send one via snail mail. I personally use email.
If EVMS is absolutely where you want to go because you really liked the school/ due to lack of acceptances, or for whatever reason, I would make that clear by writing a letter of intent. It seems like a school where you might get a few "brownie points" for being very enthusiastic about the school, (especially if your scores are average/above average).

I have heard some people say IS moves more and others say OOS moves more. Do you know which moved more last year?

I think IS moves more...from what I can tell from old posts, and from what I know about EVMS...

I have also primarily heard instate moves more.

I just want to get one the list.. going on my 7th week without a decision

Who does everyone usually email in the admissions office for status updates and the like? I see Ms. McLendon and Ms. Webber on the EVMS website, but I also know there are others. Who do you find to be the nicest/most informative?

Dr. Solhaug. He's the head of admissions, and quite busy though. You'll find his email if you search the website...He's not listed on the main page though.

Thanks, I have always wanted to email him but I didn't know if that was sort of crossing the line. Hopefully now I'll fine out whats going on with my application...

So Dr. Solhaug emailed me back after like thirty minutes (amazing) and told me that "My letter would be sent out tomorrow" and to "contact Vera Potts for a phone interview". Anybody else ever experience this? Phone interview after my official interview? What could this mean?

Thanks for any help.

It means you're on the waitlist, and they want to talk to you about what you can expect from here on out.

Vera Potts is Dr. Solhaug's secretary, so you will call her to set up an appointment for a phone interview with him. I live close by, so when I got waitlisted, I just ran down and met with him in person.

He's a nice guy, that Dr. Solhaug. He seemed very optimistic about my chances of getting in off the WL.

Good luck, keep us updated.

Does anybody know how many people are in the top third of the waitlist?

Does anybody know how many people are in the top third of the waitlist?

I was told by the admissions office that there are appx 350 on the waitlist total. That means 116-117 in each third.

Honestly, this doesn't matter so much because we have no idea of the makeup of each third. IS vs OOS, sex, race, etc...

They accept people off the waitlist to replace class members they lost...so it's really anyone's guess.

Hey guys I got accepted off waitlist today (top 1/3 instate).. best wishes to you all !!!

it was by snail mail. A large envelope 🙂 Good luck🙂

Congrats! Did you do anything after getting placed on the waitlist? Like send a letter of update or interest?

i sent in a letter of interest/updates !!!

IS Dr. Solhaug usually good about responding to an email if you send him one, or does it depend?

He's usually pretty good, but sometimes it takes a little while. Depends on how busy he is, I guess...

I got accepted off the WL yesterday, snail mail. I was kind of hoping, given the late date, that my financial aid package would be included when I got accepted, but that was not the case. I am pretty sure I will be withdrawing this week, so good luck to everyone still waiting.

Hey guys, I was accepted today off the waitlist. Seems to me there's quite a bit of movement. I'll be withdrawing tomorrow (in-state) so good luck to everyone here!! :luck:

Congrats mdgator and nucaccumbens! Can I ask what thirds of the waitlist you guys were on and whether you sent letters of update/interest?

were those of you accepted invited to 2nd look?

I'm gonna withdraw tomorrow. Hope one of you guys gets it.

Hi Waiting112, I was in the top 1/3, and I did not send any letters of update/interest.

I was in the top 1/3, (OOS), I was invited to second look, and I did send a letter of interest immediately after I was waitlisted, about a month ago. I decided this weekend that I'm 99% sure I'm going somewhere else. I'm going to think on it one more day, but I'm almost positive that I'll withdraw Thursday. Good luck to everyone waiting. There seems to be a lot of movement going on, so hang in there.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone getting off of the waitlist!!!!! You all deserve it and should be very proud of yourselves.

For those that are withdrawing.....THANK YOU!!! Thank you for not waiting until the last minute and letting some of us other waitlisters have a shot. I know it's hard to let go of an acceptance because you do work really hard for it so I think I can speak for all those still desperate to get into EVMS that we appreciate it.

Good luck to everyone!!!:luck::luck:

I second this notion! Your fellow Wailist-ers salute you and your speedy decision!

Just emailed the admissions office to notify them that I would like to withdraw. Does anyone know if there must be something submitted in writing in a hard copy?

Either way, I hope one of you guys gets my spot! I'm an OOS male.

Another echo...thank you everyone for making your decisions and withdrawing! I hope those of us waiting hear good news in the coming weeks.

I wonder what this means for those of us in the middle 1/3 of the IS waitlist...

Not necessarily. If all the people on the the top third of the waitlist were OOS or IS but only one gender, that would easily happen.
True. It intuitively feels as though that would be unlikely, but it's certainly possible.

Good news about the movement and congrats to all those who are going to their medical school of choice!

For those on the waitlist, are you calling to see if your placement has changed? If so, whats the most information you can get out of them concerning waitlist movement?

Sorry to double post, but I just got an email inviting me to the second look this weekend! That is truly great news, but the problem is I am conducting a really important experiment this week and have to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Will missing this second look hurt my chances of being accepted? I would think EVMS would understand given that they let me know on a Wednesday and the event starts on a Friday (I'm in Baltimore, MD). Any input?

Were you waitlisted top 1/3?

I wouldn't think skipping preview weekend would hurt your chances at all.

So I understand that if an OOS female declines an acceptance, they will go to the top third of the waitlist, and find another OOS female to take her spot, and if there isn't an OOS female in the top third, then they will go to the middle third, but how to they decide if there are multiple OOS females in the top third? Is the waitlist ranked further, and they just won't tell us, or do they just pick a name out or a hat?

I believe so but I never got official confirmation. I don't think it will hurt either, but I'm going to call them tomorrow and clarify why I can't attend.

I just called, and they said an email would suffice
