So Dr. Solhaug emailed me back after like thirty minutes (amazing) and told me that "My letter would be sent out tomorrow" and to "contact Vera Potts for a phone interview". Anybody else ever experience this? Phone interview after my official interview? What could this mean?

Thanks for any help.

hm...i emailed Dr. Solhaug about a month ago after the preview weekend and i've yet to hear back from him....would you guys suggest me contacting him or Vera Potts??

i'm oos top 1/3 waiting for this dreaded wait to be over....

I would contact Vera. It seems to be the best way to get in touch with him. The admissions office can give you her contact info if you don't have it.

Does anyone know when the admissions committee meets to review files from the waitlist? It seemed like last week people started hearing news on Thursday.

No word here yet either. Male instate top 1/3.

Who is Vera Potts? Does she work for Dr. Solhaug?

I know he went out of town for a while and got back on 5/12. So he got back right in the midst of the May 15 withdrawals and then on 5/16 they had graduation. I've been waiting to hear from him or Vera for a few weeks as well. I have a feeling he is a bit swamped right now.

Oh yeah, IS top 1/3. I wasn't invited to 2nd look 🙁

So I emailed Dr. Solhaug to set up an interview and he never got back to me so I called Vera, and she told me to email her with some times I could meet with Dr. Solhaug, and that was about 2 weeks ago, and she has yet to email me back, so I think they are pretty busy right now.
I am top third OOS,

And what is the deal with the waitlsit, It seems like everybody on here is in the top third.

That's because the average SDNer is not the average applicant!
I am OOS F and I have yet to hear anything. I called today and they said that they had had some movement.
I hope this helps!

I'm in-state, middle 1/3.

ACCEPTED TODAY!!

I was in the middle third when waitlisted in November, bumped up to top 1/3 in April.

So, the waitlist is moving!!

Nope. Unless I missed the call or didn't get one or something.

It was by mail.

Gotcha. Thanks! There was someone on this thread who said they received a phone call so that is why I asked.

Interesting. From reading last year, it seemed they started calling at this point, but I guess they're doing both now...back to watching for the mailman...

I'm middle 1/3 OOS (waitlisted in April). I called today and was told that my status hasn't changed. She told me that the waitlist has started moving a little, but is a lot slower than previous years...🙁

Arrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just got into my first choice off the waitlist, so I will be withdrawing from EVMS when I get the formal paperwork. Hope my spot goes to one of you all waiting patiently.

So I just spoke to someone in admissions about my waitlist status, and asked her whether or not they anticipate getting to the middle third/bottom third. She said the committee looks at the entire list when an opening becomes available. Does this make any sense? If this were the case, what would be the point of ranking into thirds? I just don't get it.

I thought this was the case. For example: Halmuelon (or however you spell it) was in the middle third last year, but was taken off pretty darn early...

Ya, but last year there was mad waitlist movement, whereas this year, nothing has moved. I called today and they have had only a little movement on the waitlist. I also don't get the whole thirds of waitlist. I think they are just for applicants to know where they stand. However its a lot work to go over the entire waitlist every time an opening opens, so what they actually do is rank a top 20 every week and pick someone from that list to fill the spot. However, in order to make the top 20 list, they go through the entire waitlist. I guess that if you are in the top third you have a better chance of being on the top 20 list or at least I hope...

When I called to inquire about my status, she just told me I was in the top third, and so i asked if they just picked a name out of a hat, or was there more rational behind it. She then told me that they give everyone some type of score, but that there can be up to 20 or more people with the same score. So if they need a in state male, they will find the instate male with the highest score, but if the instate male with the highest score is in the bottom third, then they will pass everybody else up in the high and middle third to take that in state male. At least that is what she told me.

Thats ridiculous. Why would the person with the highest score be on the bottom of the waitlist?

Yeah I thought your score was what determined what third you were in. So how can 20 people have the same score and be all over the list?

I love the clarity of this situation. Either way, our chances don't look too good this year, seeing as though we are almost June 1st and the list hasn't moved much.

No its not that the person with the highest score would be at the bottom of the wait list, but if they need a certain demographic such as an In state female, they will find the in state female with a higher score than the rest of the in state females on the list. So you might get passed up if you have a higher score than someone else because they need to keep their class diverse.

Oh ok I see now. So you may have the same score as 20 other people on the list but they may be of different state-status and gender. So someone with a score below you will get accepted first if they match the demographic they need.

Stupid list!!!! Move already!! *stomps feet like a five year old*

hey all. i have been stalking this thread for awhile. im an instate male that has been on the waitlist since january. i have pretty much solely been talking to dr solhaug regarding my position on the waitlist which he refuses to tell me because he says it doesnt mean much. all i know is i have talked to quite a few people that came off the waitlist or know someone that came off the waitlist in the weeks before class starts, even heard of someone getting in 3 days after class starts. so keep your heads up. im just really not trying to resubmit that damn amcas application.

Same here, except that the waitlist movement this year seems really dismal. Does anyone else have this feeling?

well i have a meeting with dr solhaug next month, and i dont believe that he wouldn't string me along unless there was still some chance that I be accepted this year. At least thats how i like to think about it. Im waiting until that meeting before I submit my AMCAS, I feel like I will get a good vibe of whether or not something is going to happen this year.

I also met with him and thought the same thing. However, there is no way of predicting the waitlist movement, although I must admit that compared to last year, this is happening exceedingly slowly.
A mod told me, when I asked the same question, that the dean may be thinking of next year when bring on the attention. Indeed, he has the mandate to fill his class with the best people so he may be trailing us along for this purpose. That is just one mod's view though, so lets hope that is not what is actually going on.

stringing us along for next year? that would really suck.

i emailed dr. solhaug earlier in the week to request a phone interview, and haven't heard back yet. not surprised tho.

email vera potts instead, she'll pencil you in.

Hey guys,
I withdrew my acceptance on May 28th. I hope someone hears soon.

Anyone knwo how many apps they received this year?

Im instate male mid third and have been on The list since November. At this point, this is just plain annoying.

I just got accepted to Wake Forest and am withdrawing my EVMS acceptance tomorrow so that should open up a spot for an OOS female. Best of luck to all of you! :luck:

I just withdrew my seat this morning.
I am a white, OOS male.
Hope this seat goes to one of you all.

How about some IS movement, anyone think they would give up a place if they got an offer somewhere else

long time stalker here, just wanted to say waitlist is moving i just got a call yesterday, yay!

Just throwing this out there.. Any of you guys who are getting accepted and are looking for a roommate let me know.

I just received my letter of acceptance yesterday in the mail!!!! Easily, one of the best days of my life. I still can't believe it. I am an OOS male from the top 3rd of the waiting list. Now I can put away my MCAT books, that is the best part I think haha. Good luck to everyone out there!
