everytime i see a fedex truck...i am like "please go to my house"
 
For any current EVMS-ers:

Does EVMS have a gym for their students? Or do you use a local one in Norfolk? I can't seem to find that kind of info on the website.

Also, does the school have some sort of housing guide they give to their students? I went looking in Norfolk this weekend for apartment ideas and there are so many options, I don't really know where to start.

I was wondering about a gym myself! There is an apartment guide in the hallway leading up to the admissions/financial aid office in Lewis Hall. You can get inside by getting a visitor's badge at the front desk. It just looks like a general apartment guide you can probably get around town. If you ask Nicole Priest, she might even send you one. She said she would for me, but she forgot, and I just picked one up when I visited. As for housing packets from the school itself, they don't have those ready yet. I've been looking at norfolk.craigslist.org and sinapse.evms.edu (Look under modules --> virtual market) for roommate listings.
 
EVMS does not have a gym itself, but you do get free membership to the local YMCA, which is very close to campus. I want to stress that this is no ordinary YMCA, I am in DC right now and have been looking at gyms in this area (washington sports club, ballys, and GW's gym) the YMCA in norfolk is substantially better than all of these gyms. Each cardio unit has its own tv with its own dvd player, there are raquet ball courts, basketball courts, and I think even a swimming pool. Being fat and lazy I only went to the gym a couple of times, but it was definitely a surprise.
 
DOOOOOOM since we are stressing stuff, i thought i'd add that since DOOOOOOM got an early acceptance to Med School, he has the luxury of being lazy..... the rest of us still in the program don't have the time to be lazy.
 
those that have already received an acceptance.....
did you guys receive an e-mail notifying you of your acceptance *before* you received the fed-ex package? (i'm jus wondering if i should devote all my energy purely to my physical mailbox or share it with my internet mailbox as well) 😛

I just got the FedEx package. They sent it to my parents, too, not my mailing address. I thought that was a bit strange, but it worked out ok since I was going home that weekend anyways.

So I would stick to the actual mailbox for now!:luck:

I too only got the fedex package sent to my parents.
For those of you already in, do you know when we are supposed to receive the packet that details housing, classes and all the other information?

Housing packets aren't ready the last time I checked. You should be getting forms from the financial aid office. If you have specific questions about things or want more information earlier, you can ask Nicole Priest. Otherwise, she says that we won't be getting a lot of information until close to when class starts, or during orientation, I forget.
 
yea I deff would not be expecting anything in the form of housing or class schedules any time in the near future. We didnt get our schedule or any help with housing beyond a hampton roads apartment guide. YOu will get the class schedule during orientation. Many apartments require proof of income. You can ask the financial aid office to email you a form that states the anticipated loans you will be able to recieve, that should cover you. By the way, when I got my acceptance last year, it came to my parents house too, but that may have been the only address I put on it. Congrats to those who have been accepted, and good luck to those still waiting.

personally mine are as follows:
cum: ~3.4
bcmp: ~3.2
mcat: 9v 10b 10p
research: extensive
non-clinical volunteer work: extensive
clinical volunteering/shadowing: not so extensive :scared:
letters of rec: excellent
application complete: by deadline 🙁

anyone else? :laugh:
 
haha princessbbn and redrabbit, i know how you guys feel. It's sad waiting. I think i've gotten better about not looking out the window every time i hear something that sounds like a fed-ex truck. my stats are


CUM GPA : 3.23
Science GPA: 3.07 with around a 3.9 for the past 85 units or so. Pretty bad before then haha.

mcat: 10v 11ps 12bs and an M in writing, dunno what happened there heh

research: 3 months, nothing really exciting

clinical volunteering/shadowing:
i guess i'm in the normal range, but had a great shadowing opportunity where i was shadowing 60 hours a week which hopefully makes up for 3 years of doing nothing before then.

LOR's: One great, hopefully, and the other ones i'm thinking generic

application complete: 2nd week of March


I haven't heard back from any of the SMP's i've applied to yet, it's a little frustrating. I also realized i spelled BLVD. wrong on my EVMS app, i spelled it BLVID. 🙁 . I think that's why they're hesitant to accept me :laugh:
 
i think my MCAT's the lowest out of everyone applying.....🙁
o yea....also pretty shocking to realize that IF i make it into EVMS's smp and IF i make it into their med school afterwards.....i'll be ~$300,000 in the hole upon graduation (oos).....:wow:
on a brighter note......that BLVID comment was hilarious.....:laugh: i'm exactly the same way.....i actually called nicole and asked if i should send her a new copy of my application after my printer was fixed because the previous one had a few gray lines running down the side.....she said it was fine and that i didn't have to....but i still can't help feeling uneasy about it....hehehehe 🙄
 
i have an okay GPA (3.3/3.4 ish) but my MCAT scores are low... 26...(10PS 6VR 10BS). Hearing what is on this forum, i don't think i will get in anymore. I have good LOR, shadowing, ans research but not a lot of volunteering. so sad.... I am tempted to call nicole to see where my application is right now... see if i am waitlisted or anything....
 
I feel your pain redrabbit - I beginning to feel very concerned that this might not be my year to get in.

A lot of community volunteer experience but very little clinical patient exposure
Application complete beginning of Feb.

(Here's my excuse) I took the MCAT without much study time, only did 1 practice test before the real thing and hadn't taken organic chemistry at all. I know it sounds stupid but I felt like I had to give it a shot so I wouldn't have to wait another year. (I'm an oldER non-traditional)

I'm finishing up the 2nd semester of organic now and starting a prep course that will set me up for the MCAT at the end of July...I'm thinking I'll have a dramatic increase in my score for the next application cycle. 🙂

When I talked with Dr. Meyer, he said the typical applicant has a higher MCAT score and a lower GPA than I have. Although I'm not in their "typical category," I'm hoping that they take into consideration my community service background and my strong and deep desire to start school this fall at EVMS.

man....seeing how much earlier everyone applied and still haven't heard back...i guess i will have to anticipate waiting ALOT longer than it has already seemed....i was honestly expecting to hear *some* news (either good/bad) within the 2-3 week time frame they gave....not that i'm not used to this torture by now....97% of the application cycle = waiting.....and waiting.....and a lil more waiting....:idea: oh! and did i mention waiting?

Deep - intensely engrossed and focused on getting in and finishing med school

Quick question-
Did you guys ever get an email saying that your application file was complete? I received an email a few weeks ago when they received my packet but no follow up mail saying that the file is complete (i am sure I've sent everything). emails and phone calls to the "office of health professions" has yielded no response.
 
i believe they don't send a confirmation e-mail stating that u'r file is complete.....hmmm....they're usually really good about answering questions if you call them (maybe they're super busy now with all applications in)....but if you get a hold of nicole she will be able to tell you if your file is complete....she's really nice! :clap:
 
I got an email because they didn't get something, and then I replied back to make sure my file was complete. I'm not sure if you get an email telling you when you are complete. Nicole or Dr. Meyer are easier to reach via phone or email, from personal experience.
 
Just called them.................could not get a hold of Nicole but the lady (forgot who) said that they had mailed some acceptances today. Let's keep our finger crossed.

I think I got rejected. She said that they would be sending letters in a couple weeks to me. That probably means the rejection letters go out later. Damn 🙁

thanx for the update! WOW.....now i'm seriously nervous....:scared: for the FIRST time in my life....i'm sad it's *friday*! that means extra day of waiting.....(they send it priority right?)

On second thought I'm not so sure we were on the same page (remember it wasn't Nicole but some other lady who answered the phone). Maybe she was talking about acceptances for some other program. I tried to clarify but my other phone kept on ringing (it was my boss) so I had to get off the line quickly.
 
sucks that all this coincides with the delivery time for my online order of a new laptop charger.....i dunno if i will be able to handle myself if i open up a fed-ex package...only to find a stupid charger.....+pissed+

that wouldn't be a dell would it? i just had to order one for my inspiron yesterday. its apparently a recurrent problem with dell notebooks

lol....i wish.....i dunno y but when it comes to academic stuff....i have absolutely no patience.....i was seriously that annoying student that would call their professor the same afternoon after a test to get their grade (granted i went to a small private school and this was allowed).....😛

Nothing here either -- anyone receive a package?!

For those of you who have received information, did the packages come priority overnight (USPS) or Fed Ex? Some posts say Fed Ex, some say something else.
 
Mine was in a FedEx package. It's not big, it only has a folder in it.

It's a FedEx express priority overnight flat envelope the size of a folder from the EVMS Office of Research (Nicole Priest).
 
Don't know if this helps any but mine last year was exactly as described above, flat folder sized priority overnight FED EX. Good luck.....
 
i think fedex overnights on fridays usually comes on Monday (the next business day) unless a saturday delivery is requested.
