Someone asked me some questions so i thought I'd post them up.
I dont know if anyone besides the initial 11 have heard yet. People are pretty hush hush about it.
I remember you saying that most students study off the syllabus, but what is that exactly?
-The syllabus is more like a reader. I dont know why they call it a syllabus, its a bit of a misnomer. Its just basically a print out of all the PowerPoint slides for that class. You basically study off the slides for all your classes. Some packets can get pretty thick. I think the biochem one is like 800 pages, physio 1200, histo 400, etc.
Is it a pdf document that the professors hand out to you on the first day of class - or is it more like a reader?
-The professors dont hand them out, you usually have to get them yourselves from some office or they're in your mailbox. The online versions are either PDF or PPT files. Every once in a while you have to get an updated version of the notes online.
Also are most of the lecture material on powerpoint/pdf or are there still some professors who write out their notes on boards?
-Most of the stuff you're tested on is straight from the notes. Sometimes professor may talk about stuff and go off on tangents that could be testable or would make getting the question on the test a lot easier but they rarely test off the notes.
How much of the material do you actually print out or is everything computer assessable?
-Both. You get a print out and you can access it online. The bulk of your printing goes towards printing out old tests. I think for histo and embryo you have to print out the in class lecture presented lecture slides but they give you a copy of the notes which are different than the slides.
What format/application do you need to replay the lectures on the computer?
-I'm assuming you mean the recordings of the lectures. You need an mp3 player. In general, I would only attend clinical correlation lectures because they're usually impossible to follow with out actually being in class.
I don't know how large the files are, but would it be easy for you to forward me the syllabi for the fall semester classes?
-There are a ton of files and some are bigger than others. I dont really have time to do it. Sorry! Maybe if you ask the professors to do it, they might. Trust me, you'll have enough time to look at them in the Fall. I can assure you of that. Better to rest up or get a job and make some money.
