Has anyone applied to EVMS SMP and had applied after taking January MCATs (for the first time, not a retake) and got accepted?

Mine is on Sept 12... but i don't know if it will be high enough.

Well, wait and see what you get before deciding what to do. But applying late won't kill your chances. I applied extremely late (a few weeks before the deadline) and I still got in, but not until late July. Applying early is always your best shot.

No luck so far 🙁

Ok.. so i'll take the sept 12 (it will be my third time retaking) and send my information by oct 15... i really hope it works... bummer since they take your most recent, shouldn't have retook in the first place. 28p first and 24o second time.

i have 3 faculty recs in interfolio that i can send to evms and recycle my personal when i applied to med school. transcripts i'll have to order online/over the phone and hope it doesn't take too long.

Thanks Daedalus, how long did the whole application take you to be complete?

Does anyone know if EVMS Smp will let you sit in the class if i don't get into the smp year. I wanted to move there later in the year and just see how the classes were. I won't show up for tests of course but thought since i have to wait a whole other year, might as well be in the environment until i get in.

Technically, I believe that would 1) make you a trespasser (unless you get a DAILY guest pass), and 2) give you free access to lectures that the rests of the students pay to hear. I admire your desire to get acclimated, but from the point of view of the administration, why would they agree to that--especially if you haven't even been accepted to the NEXT class at that point?

Truth!! Especially since its not like a guarantee that you are going to be accepted. Just applying doesn't guarantee anything and if this was possible so would lots of students be doing this. So no I highly doubt it.

Besides almost every single medical school I've ever been to including small old LECOM Bradenton DO school in my hometown have some of the tightest security around. USF actually has some of the laxest security I've seen but at BU, Drexel, LECOM B there are security guards at the entrance to the med school. USF has cops on campus but its still easy to enter the classroom just not the lounges and lab classrooms.

EVMS' security isn't awe-inspiring, but it is present and will ask you to show ID when you walk into the door

Ummm.. wasn't interested in knowing there is security, i'd like to honour the wishes... i just didn't know what those wishes were (if they allowed us to sit in the class and just listen, since we weren't getting a degree.)

But someone said the administration doesn't allow this. OK. Thanks! Just curious if they allowed it. That IS all.

Much appreciated, but extra info was not needed.

Have fun tomorrow and good luck this year! 🙂

I was looking over the EVMS website and I read over the FAQS, since April 1st is the final date for applying, if I have everything sent in besides an MCAT score will I still be considered an applicant?

Thanks in advance.

For the next application cycle you mean??? Yes you'd be considered for the next application cycle for the people who start EVMS BMS in 2010 but they prob. wouldn't start assessing apps til January or February.

Alright thanks! Sorry I didn't phrase that question clearly.

Hi everyone! First Post!!!
I've applied to the EVMS Med Masters program for fall 2010-app. was complete on 10/16. Does anyone know what the earliest is that I might hear? I REALLY want to get into this program and was hoping to I could get accepted before the year is out, maybe even earlier. Also, IS helps, right? I'm from VA, 3.0 BCPM/28Q. What do you think my chances are of getting accepted rather than waitlisted first? I'm hoping that being IS and applying super early will help my case...

I have read something on this thread saying that evms only looks at the gpa from the institution you graduated from and they do not account for grades that you have after graduation. Could anyone verify this?

Not in my experience. I got in with a bachelors earned in 1993 and a postbac finished in 2008.

MCAT 30
GPA 3.1, 3.84 over last six semesters
Hampton Roads resident

Waitlisted....

What do I do now?
The waitlist moves a lot.

1. apply to other SMPs
2. send a letter of intent to EVMS
3. whenever you have new assets (new grades, new ECs, new LORs, whatever) send an update letter to EVMS
4. get professional review of your application, so that any problems are figured out before your next AMCAS cycle

Best of luck to you.

Do you guys think I should send all these items in with a letter of intent or should I ask for an interview with Dr. Meyer and give it to him while i am there.
Both.

Completely honest assessment...If anything, you will probably be wait-listed. Andres Ponce was waitlisted with a 30 and 3.1 and I was wait-listed just the other day with 31, 3.15 from a competitive undergrad school. I got the impression that instate or out of state meant nothing for SMP but I might be wrong. Also, as someone else mentioned there will be many qualified applicants who apply later (due to MD rejections, etc.) so it is likely that only the best candidates will be accepted early.

Now for a bit of positivity...In reading through the forums related to this program it appears that there is a TON of movement with the wait-list. I believe someone who said they were on the middle 1/3 of the wait-list ultimately got accepted. Best of luck to you and to all EVMS hopefuls and definitely keep showing them your interest in the program. Who knows, we might be classmates next year!

Would some of those accepted into the program be willing to share your stats? I'm trying to get a feel for how tough it is to get into the MedMasters thing. I will be appying with ~3.28 OA and 3.25 BCPM and am trying to gauge my competitiveness...

I got waitlisted also. I'm in state.

It was weird though because about a week or two after I got my waitlist letter, I got an e-mail from Rose saying that my application was being sent to the committee for review. That was about 5 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything since...

When you're on a waitlist you get periodically reviewed and ranked against other waitlistees, so that they know who to pull off it first.

MCAT 30, GPA 3.4 (Sci 3.1, last 2 years 4.0)
Waitlisted late Dec.
Accepted Jan 7

The program is only about half full. As they receive applications, the waitlist will be reassessed.

Anyone know if participation in the program goes toward acheving in-state residency for tuition at the medical school?

I got waitlisted today with a 3.34 gpa and 27Q mcat (9s on every section) and in-state resident. Is anyone planning on sending on a letter of intent?

Has anyone heard back from EVMS recently? ie. been accepted/got off the waitlist?

I'm thinking that the snowstorm is probably delaying any decisions they are making. Does anyone know if they are still sending acceptances via Fedex this year? Or are they just calling / emailing the wait lists and acceptances?

Just curious, are any of the students at EVMS currently going to class? Or are the snowstorms too dangerous?

The snowstorms hit farther north for the most part-up in the northern VA/DC area. We only got a couple inches in the Norfolk area and we had some icy conditions that were dangerous but nothing too awful that I think would warrant canceling classes

I was considering applying, but am a little worried about my chances...

I have a 3.05 overall, 2.97 sGPA, and 29MCAT
graduated from a top tier school

I've been 2 years out of undergrad, and have pretty good clinical experience....

Is it wise for me to apply at this point...
also wondering about the personal statement...

I know there's a 500 word limit, so what's the most important information to include... why the program specifically fits us, or why we would be a good candidate for the program?
Thanks for the help

Do they put any weight on being IS or OOS?

EVMS just changed from private to public, so there's increasing IS bias for MD admissions. I'm personally skeptical that the SMP will have the same bias, not for a few more years.

Has anyone heard anything from EVMS recently? I hate waiting.....

IS, 3.4, 29R (with 8 in bio)
file complete 3/1. got acceptance letter 3/5 by snail mail
good surprise to come back to over spring break =)

Wow you were accepted only a couple of days after completion? That's impressive. Congrats! I'm waiting for my status to turn complete now.

yayy congrats! r u defnitly going? i got accepted too and wanted to visit the school before i make my final decision

Is it worth it to submit an application this late? it sounds like the majority of the spots are filled already so I'm not too sure I even stand a shot. 2.81cum, 2.82bcpm, 33 MCAT (11/11/11) should I even bother or is it too late? I've submitted to a few others but not too confident with any. I'm really hoping to get off one of the two waitlists i'm on and not have to worry 🙁

I'm still not sure, because I'm WL at a couple of schools for this cycle...but I kinda feel hopeless at this point 🙁

EVMS is a really nice school though - would love to get into the MD program *siiiigh haha

kinda just dreading taking and studying for the MCAT again, honestly.

@DbDan: I think you should! I applied kind of late, and was surprised at how quickly they responded back =) Hope you get off your waitlists tho 🙂 best of luck! 👍

I just submitted my app--(so if I get conflicting responses, I guess it's too late🙂) but I did the majority of my essay as your "basic" personal statement and then added in a paragraph (3-4 sentences) or so near the end as to why EVMS med masters in particular and THEN in my cover letter attached to my CV I went into much more detail as to why I am head-over-heels for EVMS.

hope that helps 🙂

For those that used interfolio to send in letters how did you do it? It seems that they want you to add the names and e-mails of each of your recommenders so that they can e-mail a request for the letters but I'd rather not bother the recommenders since they've already submitted my letters to both interfolio and my school's letter service. I know that they say you can do interfolio but how should you go about that section of the app since it won't let you go any further without those details? any ideas? I'm going to call the school tomorrow but if I can send everything tonight that'd be ideal.
