Hey guys, I remember Examkrackers had a really good section on memorizing hormones. Unfortunately, I don't have the book anymore and am looking to refresh my memory. It was only a couple of pages, and I remember it really helped me learn it. If you have the the book, would you please summarize that mnemonic/strategy?

Perhaps you are referring to "Flat P*g" for the anterior pituitary?

FSH
LH
ACTH
TSH

Prolactin
*
Growth Hormone

Thanks, that's one of them.

There was something along the lines of "Remember these here are the steroid hormones. Everything else is peptide."

I believe there were a few other points as well. Anyone know?

Lol easiest way to remember them is... anything with HORMONE at the end is from the anterior pituitary

Adrenal Cortex: Aldosterone and Cortisol
Ovaries / Testes: Estrogens, Progesterone / Testosterone

These are the steroid hormones, and anything else is a peptide hormone.
Epinephrine and Norepinephrine from the Adrenal Medulla are tyrosine derivatives.

in the audio osmosis, jordan asks

"So Jon, how do you make a hormone?"

and Jon replies

"Easy, you just don't pay her"

hahahahaha

if you didn't get it, hormone = ***** moan

Thanks, Apoptosis. Was there anything else on those few pages?

umm... don't aldosterone and cortisol come from the adrenal cortex?

also, thyroid "hormone" doesn't qualify, unless of course you remembered it as thyroxine

Yes... my god. And I was reading it from the paper! This is what I can look forward to on monday. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me... is it possible to develop dyslexia later in life? I'll change the original post...sorry.

Just a heads up this is NOT true. For instance, ADH (Anti-Diuretic HORMONE) comes from POSTERIOR pituitary. TH (Thyroid HORMONE) comes from the THYROID. PTH parathyroid HORMONE comes from the parathyroids. So everything that ends in hormone most certainly does not come from the anterior pituitary.
