I am an exercise science major because i was planning on going to physical therapy school. But now im planning on attending med school. However a few of my professors told me I should switch to Biomedical sciences. Exercise science doesn't have genetics, cell bio or biochemistry in the curriculum map. But with physics, general bio and chemistry not being in the curriculum either it would be hard to take all the pre requisites along with extra classes that aren't pre requisites. So should I just switch to biomedical sciences or continue as an exercise science major and just get the pre requisites?

If you are able to take the basic prerequisite classes (general chem, organic chem, biology and physics) as an exercise science major, there's no need to switch. All majors have roughly equal acceptance rates into medical school. Genetics, cell biology and biochemistry will be useful, but they generally aren't required.

Okay that's what I thought. They were saying that although that was what the pre requisites might say they really preferred that I have cell biology, genetics and biochem as well they said without these classes it would be harder to get accepted and if I did I wouldn't be prepared without the other classes

Just be aware that there are a handful of schools that require biochemistry and/or genetics and another subset of schools require advanced science electives past the pre-reqs. I would double check that your state school/top choice isn't one of them.

The MCAT also seems to have been incorporating more and more biochem/molecular/genetics questions, while I don't think the new MCAT format is supposed to specifically increase the focus on these areas it's still something to keep in mind.

Another thing to check is to make sure the classes you take for your major fulfill the prereq requirements (ie you aren't taking "Gen chem for exercise science majors").
