A human inhales radioactive oxygen molecules while breathing. Which exhalation would the same radioactively labeled oxygen molecules first reappear?

A:The first exhalation. Answer
B:The second exhalation.
C:The third exhalation.
D:The fourth exhalation.
E:The fifth exhalation.
This is a spin off of a qvault question. I tried looking up the answer, but all I got was because of tidal volume breathing. Could someone explain why this answer choice is correct? Is it because not all the O2 inhaled diffuses from the aveoli into the blood stream, so left over O2 is exhaled after inhalation?

thanks!

You're making this too hard.

The qvault question had birds instead of humans right? For birds, they exhale and inhale simultaneously. Humans can only exhale or inhale at one time.

So for birds, when there's inhalation of radioactive oxygen, they're exhaling the previous oxygen. The next time they inhale whatever new oxygen, they're exhaling the radioactive oxygen.

Humans just......breathe.

This question freaked me out on Qvault. Then I texted destroyer man and he said "young padawan. Some questions are overkill". I've been semi-embarrassed ever since.

😱 the audacity..for him to say such a thing. Be semi-embarrassed no more, for you are not alone.

Destroyer man? You texted...Dr. Romano? What?

Yes please explain... lol. "Hey Doc R, wth iz up w/ #180? Txt me bk."

It is an oddly worded question but it does get you to apply several tidbits of info. So, while a stretch, I see the purpose. 🙂
