Just wanted to know what everyone was hoping for with this round of applications.

I applied to 8 PhD programs... I'm hoping for 3 interviews and 1 acceptance.

- applied to 12 clinical PhD programs
- hoping for 5 interviews, 2 or 3 acceptances

this is my first and hopefully last time applying, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I applied to 13.

I am hoping for 3 interviews and 2 acceptances. I know that's ridiculous, but I don't care.

this is my second attempt.
applied to 7 PsyD programs. Hoping for at least 2 interviews and acceptances.

This is my second time applying. I applied to 7 Ph.D. programs. Was originally hoping for 4 interviews and 2 acceptances-- at this point, I'm hoping for 2 interviews and 1 acceptance. 🙂

What an interesting thread!

I applied to 8 programs. Ideally, I'd like to interview at 4. I only need to be accepted to 1, and I'm willing to be surprised.

second time arounder also... Applied to 4 PhD programs, 10 PsyD programs. Hoping for 4 interviews, 2 acceptances. Will love anything that results in 1 acceptance 😛

11 phd's, 5 interviews, 3 acceptances (one is not as hard to get into, but also hass less funding to go around). 🙄

Due to not having a severely pressing need to start my doctoral program this year (but open to the option) nor the financial means to bankroll a dozen application fees; I only applied to three Psy.D programs to test the waters (2 of them being serious, then Argosy just out of curiosity). If I get in, I get in. If I don't, I don't.

So, I honestly haven't set expectations.

EDIT: Ok, so I got the Argosy interview. (It is what it is.)

Applied to 8 Ph.D. programs. I'm hoping for at least 2 interviews, and 2 acceptances, even though I know it might be unlikely.

First time applying (and I agree with the person above - also hopefully my last!): I applied to 10 Clinical Psych PhD programs. I'm hoping for a minimum of 3 interviews. But 1 acceptance will be fine by me so really if I only get the 1 interview I already have scheduled and get in.. that'll work. 😛

I applied to 7 (messed up the cut-off date for one, meant to get 8 apps in). I hope to get at least an interview or two, still waiting since most of my applications were due Jan. 1st - 15th and I'm guessing are on the later end of interviews (clinical ph.d., looking for specialization in medical or health psychology).

it's my first time applying. I originally was going to apply to 9 Ph.D programs, but over the summer and early fall, I really narrowed down what I wanted to do in terms of research, and eliminated a bunch of school mid application. So I ended up applying to 4 schools. If I don't get in, I won't be too heart broken, because I've realized there are numerous schools to which I could apply to next round that really match well for what I want to research. Of the four schools I applied to, I hope I get one interview, and maybe two acceptances (the New School doesn't interview since you are first admitted to the masters part of the program)

good luck everyone.

This year, for my second round of applications, I applied to 10 Clinical PhD programs. I hope to get 4 interviews and 2-3 acceptances, although I would still be happy with one!

This is my second time around too.

I'm applying to 10 programs and hoping for 2 interviews and 1 acceptance. It'll be a bonus if I get accepted to two so I can have a bit of a choice but I'll definitely be thrilled with one 🙂

1st time: 22 applications and I'd be ecstatic over a single acceptance. I'll be fairly upset if I don't get at least 2 interviews.

First time applying. Applied to 4 PhD programs, expecting 4 interviews, and 4 acceptances. That's right, I said it!

Ok, put down the crack pipe... LOL.

I go to school with a girl who applied only to our program... Yep, she got interviewed, accepted and is going there!

I think my expectations are pretty low. As a result I applied to 11 programs (which is a lot I've been told). I hope to get 3-4 interviews (hope hope) and 2 lab invites. I fully expect to be rejected by the majority of them.

Eh, I wouldn't say 11 is really a lot. Don't worry. Supposedly the average to apply to is somewhere between 12-14. I applied to 10 and feel like I should have applied to more. Haha.

I applied to 12 phd programs -- mostly ones w/ a child specialization/child track. I didn't realize people were only expecting to get interviews for 1/3 of 1/4 of their schools -- that makes me feel a little silly for expecting interviews for atleast 8 programs! I will anchor my expectations to 6 schools -- I've gotten 3 replies so far and I am almost certain I've been dinged from 3 other programs, so that leaves 6 open for discussion. I hope to get admitted by atleast 2 of my top 5 programs. *crosses fingers*

The stress never ends, does it?

It should be interesting to revisit this thread in mid April to see how right or wrong we were ...

SDN would have you think that... until I read this thread I thought everybody but me applied to a dozen programs!!!

I *only* applied to five. Would love to have more than one acceptance to choose from, but I'll be happy with one. That's b/c I only applied to schools I actually really want to go to, though.

I applied to 20 clinical Ph.D programs. i am hoping for 3-4 interviews and at least 2-3 acceptances! **keeping fingers crossed**

May I ask why so many?

Also, did your LOR writers freak out at having to do 20 different recommendations?

Also, how do you have any fingers left to cross after typing/writing all those apps?! 🙂

I applied to 15, but some were cog neuro programs. I am hoping to get 7 interviews (about half) and 3 acceptances.

I can't believe I found this site because it is just playing up all my anxiety about this process. Its funny -- I went on vacation and I when I got back I had heard about two of my interviews. I hadn't been thinking about them at all. And now while I refresh this site and my e-mail every 3.5 seconds I get nothing. A watched pot never boils. Or at least anxiety ridden time goes much slower than relaxed time!:scared:

LOL, my letter writers did 15 the first round and 27 on the second round! And in many cases wrote custom individualized letters to programs.

Yes, they got nice parting gifts each time. 😉

What parting gifts did you give them? Yikes, I just sent thank you notes to mine!

😱

You have balls of pure brass, my friend. 🙂

No way would I ever be able to bring myself to ask three people to write 27 letters! That's *easily* 10 hours of work per person, assuming maybe 20 minutes per LOR...

LOL, you're not the first to say that! I had REALLY good relationships with my professors and they were very understanding, a couple were impressed with my tenacity and resilience. So they stepped right up and knocked em out, my LOR writers were awesome!

As far as gifts, I went out and spent about $20 on each one for a nice item that really reflected their personality and our discussions. For my thesis advisor, she got a $100 bottle of really nice wine, which was something that was appropriate considering tradition.

1 phd program, one interview.
Got it. WHOO!

How is everyone doing on their expectations/predictions?

Now hoping for maybe 7 interviews (currently have 5, waiting on 8 more programs) and 2 or 3 acceptances (which is probably a dream 😛). Regardless, I'll be thrilled with one acceptance 😀

Blah.. not really going too hot. I applied to 10 schools and wanted 3 interviews. So far I still only have 1 interview. 4 of the other schools I applied to are supposedly all done extending invites, 1 more is finishing up on Monday. I think the other 4 should be extending invites next week or so. As of right now.. I'm just hoping I can do awesome at my 1 interview so I can just get in there! Haha. Cause then it won't really matter how many interviews I got. 😛

this is my second attempt.
applied to 7 PsyD programs. Hoping for at least 2 interviews and acceptances.

i have my 2 interviews and now i've changed to hoping for a total of 4 interviews, 2 acceptances.

I was hoping for 4 interviews -- applied to 8 programs -- and I've gotten only one so far. Five of my programs still haven't sent invites though, so I still have some hope. But I'm happy with the one I got. It's a good fit, and I'm hoping I'll do well on the interview.

This is my first time around. I applied to 5 PsyD programs, and I'm hoping to get 3 or 4 interviews, and hopefully more than one acceptance so I have a choice (I like some more than others). So far I've been invited for one interview, but I haven't heard from the rest.

I've been reading this message board for an hour and this is the thread that finally got me!

I applied to 16 PhD programs, 2 Master's programs.... and I have no idea what to hope for. I would like to feel like I had a little choice rather than just going to the only school that accepts me; so maybe I will hope for 3 interviews, 3 acceptances?

Also, I am now wondering if I should have heard from more schools (that is to say, any) by now. Don't feel like you need to say what school has replied, but have many of you gotten some feedback or interview invites?

Refer to "The Official Interview Invite Thread" if you want to see if you should have heard from programs by this point (doctoral ones anyway). It's extremely helpful. Also a bit depressing though in my case.

It's weird, but not many of my schools were on that list at all.... so I am still in the dark. Turns out, stress hangs out in the dark as well. Who knew?

I'm going to need all of you to collect your urine and saliva for 24 hours and give it to me so that I can measure your cortisol levels!!! Everyone is so stressed! Don't forget to take a deep breath every once in a while.

I have almost met my interview goal (7), now I just hope I was pretty right on for my acceptance goal (3). <deep breath>

Two years ago when I applied directly out of undergrad, I applied to 13 programs. I was interviewed at 1 program and accepted at that 1 program. This year- after two years of research experience, poster presentations, clinical experience, etc.- I have applied to 9 programs. I have 2 interviews but have yet to see what will happen with them.

I applied to 9 programs, got 7 interviews, and I'm crossing my fingers for at least 3 acceptances.

wow. that's fantastic! to what do you attribute your success?

Fairly high GRE (1340), good GPA (4.0), and most of all a good backround in research. I think doing an honors thesis project helped out a lot. Good Luck to you!

and a winning personality to top it all off? 😀

I had nearly the same stats (1300 GRE, 4.0 GPA, Research, Honors Thesis) and my first year applying got 2 interviews out of 15 apps. (The second time went much better.)

Personal Statements and program match can make or break someone with good stats. Remember folks, it's not just the objective stats. The objective stuff definitely gets you past the first hurdle, the subjective stuff is what lands you the interview and the acceptance. So I think psychdude5469 did a lot other things well too!!! Congrats.
