I'm an undergrad who would like to persue a career in optometry, but I have not yet had any experience in this area? Does anyone have any tips or advise about what type of activities I should get involved in?

i don't know where you are from but Prevent Blindness is a great organization where you can do vision screenings. Joining the pre-optometry club (If your school has one), or find one a near by school, they usually have community activities, seminars, and other activities. If you are a student, you can also go to the state optometric association conferences or city wide. Those are good networking opportunites with professionals and students. . . these are a few ideas I can think of. You can always work as an optician or an optometrists assistant . . .

Try contacting local optometrists and tell them you are interested in the profession and would like to shadow them or come by sometime and talk with them about the profession. Some may not but many will be very willing to help you out.
