Hello All,

I am a 4th year resident having a tough time narrowing down job options for next year. I am currently employed by a county residency program in southern CA, so if we stay working for the county for a 5th year we become vested into the county pension system. I ultimately would like to be in Northern CA and am having trouble deciding if it's worth it to stay for the extra year.
I am also thinking about several different employment options in northern CA (I'm interested in living in the Sacramento area or Santa Rosa). Does anyone have experience with the following?

Community Psychiatry
Traditions Behavioral Health
Napa State Hospital
CDCR - telepsych vs. on-site
Kaiser Northern CA
County employment (it seems like the northern CA counties pay about 70K less than my current county offer)

Any experiences you could share working at any of these places would be great. Thanks!

This is all hearsay, take whatever you want from it:

I was in Napa not long ago and heard Napa State is a sweet gig. Though not sure if state hospital is your thang, but workload is generally low. Salary figures are in the high 200s plus state pension.

I had a friend who had an offer from NorCal Kaiser, 300k sweet retirement/partnership plan golden handcuff but they are selective and workload is high.

I called community psychiatry as they sent me a flier. Sounds like a high volume commercial practice. I wouldn't personally touch that one, but your milage might vary.

Don't know the area too too well, but IMHO if you are savvy, the wine country, especially wealthy parts of Santa Rosa and Sonoma are primed for expanding private practice work. Napa county itself may be somewhat saturated. Seems like a good area with high QOL.
