Expressing interest pre-interview

I had no idea that it's good to call schools etc. to show interest. I mean yes I called them to ask questions and stuff but never gave them my AAMC id to "register" my interest. I also did send them updates via email, but never sent them long letters of interests.

Just wondering what else is there I can do to show my interest and move my application forward?

I would say that the updates are kind of already an indicator of interest. Depends on how formally their are addressed maybe?
