You wanted examples, so here you go:

3.94, 39
She has significantly more ECs than you and barely got into a single school - granted it was a UC, but considering her numbers and how many schools rejected her/how few interviewed her - its kind of scary.

3.91, 35
This guy also managed to get one acceptance - but he has pretty incredible ECs. With one exception - no clinical. Read his comments portion he talks about how thats what killed him.

I found those two in the first 20 or so profiles that showed up as profiles with >3.9 GPA. There are hundreds more to go through and probable lots more examples. And those people do have significantly more ECs than you...they barely got in.

Post a comment on their mdapps and they'll get a notification in their email and they may respond to you. Then you'll have your 3.9 person who's just like you giving the same advice we are - and maybe you'll believe them

didn't those two have a really hard time getting in b/c they only applied to top tier schools? (though i'm not debating that extracurriculars are very important to med apps.)

Thats probably part of it - as are interview skills, essays, etc.

But our OP seems to think numbers are all that matter - I'm just showing him not so and giving him access to some 3.9s with few ECs since they are the only ones who can "understand his situation" and properly respond.

And honestly, I didn't really look at where they applied - I spent like 5 min clicking through profiles to find ones that didn't get into any/many schools.

Also, it seems they applied late. But still, that is crazy. Especially the second person, to only get into one school with that kind of resume.

I don't think they applied late - the first one starts making comments about her app in January and had apparently already interviewed at Davis, LA, and possibly Harvard from the way she talks - so thats not really late.

The other is submitting secondaries at most of his schools in early-mid August - I wouldn't call that late either.

That is sad that those two only got accepted into one school with those kind of statistics. Both of those people also had pretty impressive Extracurriculars.
