1. Research (4 years consecutive - 3 labs)
2. Clinical Volunteer (1.5 years)
3. Biology Assistant TA (1 semester - job)
4. Undergraduate Lab Assistant (1 year - job)
5. Co-Founder of a Non-Profit (3 years)
6. E-Board member for on-campus club (1.5 years)
7. ER Intern (1 semester)
8. Shadowing (2 physicians, 2 different semesters)
9. Retail Job (1 summer)
10. Potential research project with my lab (n/a hours)
11. Will scribe the summer I apply (I have a position secured)
12. A cooking class - my hobby (1 semester)
(13. Co-author of a meta-analysis abstract as a senior in high school. Won an award for it to be published. I'm thinking I should scratch this since its high school and admissions don't really care for high school.)

Please comment 1) if you think this is good or needs improvement, and 2) what you guys do/did.

Looking forward to read about everyone's hard-work!

Do you have a lot of volunteering with the underserved? At least 50 hours shadowing and at least some with primary care? Then I’d say you’re Gucci

-Any nonmedical hands-on community service?
-What physician specialties did you shadow?
-Any evidence of productivity in your college labs, like posters, presentations, or pubs?
-Was the TA job a teaching gig, or more like grading papers?
-What was your role as a clinical volunteer for 1.5 years and as an Intern?

@Catalystik I thought bullet points would be more convenient to read through:
1. Hmm. Through the non-profit, I participate in food packaging services. I'm not sure if this is "hands-on".
2. OB/Gyn, Primary Care, ER, and Endocrinologist
3. No 🙁 I haven't solidified anything. I have a good chance of having one, but I have to double-check with my PI to see if its on the table.
4. I helped teach a general biology lab class (i.e. through lecturing, answering questions, etc.). I didn't grade anything.
5. I am an ED volunteer and I restock carts and tend to basic patient needs. As an ED Intern, I was able to do everything a volunteer can do, plus shadow doctors, nurses, and techs. Interning was different than volunteering, because I had to opportunity to observe doctors in procedures and codes.

@jarednogeek The non-profit holds food packaging services that help children in the Philippines. I'm not sure if that counts as serving the under-served. I don't think it's direct enough.

Also, thank you both for your wonderful input!!

If you want specific organizations’ names, I suggest stating your state of residence.

1) Face-to-face interaction with those you serve in a way that helps their needs is highly desirable, but this is definitely a community service, albeit distant from the recipients of your efforts. Maybe you can find something in your local community before you apply that is related to feeding the hungry/homeless to carry along that theme.

2) Good specialty mix. Perfect if some of it was in a location (eg, office-based) where you witnessed longitudinal care (not just episodic ER care).

3) I'll cross my fingers for you.

4) Excellent that you did actual teaching, as you can choose that designation for this experience to help make for a better-rounded application.

5) Sounds good. Be careful not to double count hours where you both interned and shadowed. Carve the shadowing hours out and put them all together in a designated Shadowing entry (along with any other hours you might have).

@Catalystik Thank you so much for everything! I enjoyed your input, as well as everyone else's. I'll make sure to apply as much of them as possible.
