Extra-curriculars you guys enjoy?

I really love student government. I was a justice and it was super fun! Not to mention, it is a great way to get involve and understand the inner workings around the school.

Tons of other people have said it, and I fully endorse it: SPORTS.

Even if you're not all that athletic, sports could be a great way to start being athletic! If the point is to join an EC that you're going to have a great time doing, join a club or IM sport.

I've been playing ultimate frisbee for my university, and we take awesome road trips to weekend-long tournaments. It's also a great way to make friends with people who have entirely different career-goals and personalities!

I'm a nontrad (nurse) so I feel like my ECs can be more flexible (instead of heavy volunteering and shadowing). I played baseball in college so I stay athletic by going to an old school boxing gym (I get to help instruct newcomers and heck I might even try an amateur fight or two once I'm better). I'm thinking about joining a men's baseball league or joining another gym for martial arts. In the summers I volunteer for an organization that helps mentally and physically impaired kids play baseball. And I want to get more involved with my work (quality improvement committee or something) instead of just nursing. All of that stuff is really interesting to me. I wouldn't consider doing anything I'm not interested in since 1 it's not fun and 2 it's not as easy to talk about things you weren't passionate about.

But yeah, joining a boxing or martial arts gym will help keep/make you athletic and it'll show dedication and consistency. Plus it's just really fun.

I'm a Clarinetist and Low D piper. I have a lot of versatility with those two instruments and we have an Irish studies department at my university which puts on celtic music programs I can get involved in. The clinic I volunteer for is amazing and I find it to be one of the most enjoyable ways to rack up experience. One thing I really want to do is learn how to ride horses, as that is one of the 'PE' courses offered by my university.

Many of the extra curriculars I enjoy most probably revolve around nerd culture, but I absolutely love toastmasters (public speaking) club and physical fitness.

I really enjoy extracurriculars, for they help contribute to the entire college experience.

I am a sophomore, and am going to be a senator for the student government for a second year, a tour guide, a member of a fraternity, and a member of my Honors College's intramural soccer team!

What facets of nerd culture specifically? If you don't mind my asking.

Could be anything because I am always open to try new things. I enjoy watching anime, Magic the gathering, video games, Warhammer 40k, Dungeons and Dragons, sci-fi shows, etc. I would say that I am probably most involved in Magic right now because as with any pre-medical student you never have much time to do everything anymore haha. Love it all though.

^ I second the sci fi! I'm partial to Star Trek myself, but I've heard good things about Firefly. I also like westerns (Sergio Leone) so I may pick that up, but when the semester rolls around, down time will be at a premium.

Watch Firefly. It's fantastic, and time wise, it's (unfortunately) only one season, so it doesn't take a huge chunk of time to get done.

Thanks! Between Breaking Bad and DS9 I might just get on it.
