Hey guys!!

When it comes to extracurricular activities, I have no freaking clue what to do?? I know I can volunteer somewhere, but where? 😕

Does anyone have any good ideas. I love to help people.
Does anyone know of a Dentist who does charity work and needs help assisting or something like that?? Or does anyone know how in the world I can get involved in a research program. I don't know what to do 😱
I would just love to volunteer somewhere.

I was maybe thinking at homeless shelters or salvation army, something in those lines 😕 What do guys think??? I would prefer in the health field. PLEASE HELP ME THINK OF SOMETHING. I DON'T WANT TO BE USELESS THIS SUMMER. 😴

Thanks
Mel 😀

I volunteered for the American Cancer Society and also at a nursing home facility for juveniles. You just have to get involved. Also, if you live in boston, PM me, I'm looking for people to volunteer in my lab.

I did a lot of volunteer at my college. Just little things here and there.

The public library here in South Florida has a deal where they train you over the course of a few saturdays and then you meet with adults at your local library once a week for about 1.5 hours teaching adults with a 5th or lower reading level how to read.

I like the program, I feel the one on one tutoring could really make a difference in someones life.

Thank you all for the advice!

Go to your local hospital, go to Volunteer Services, and ask to volunteer in the Dental Clinic.

Not only will that give you dental experience, but you'll get volunteering experience too.

Hello everyone, 🙂

Thank you for the advice. I am now volunteering at Pacific Garden Mission. Just two days ago I assisted an Oral surgeon and will be assiting several different dentist and specialist. This mission is for the homeless, they have a free dental clinic and a medical one as well. I am very happy!! They will teach me how to take X-rays, this is PLUS!!

I am especially happy that I will assist a doctor who is professor at UIC dental school. 😀 This will definately help my chances of getting into UIC, if I can get him to recommend me. So far the doctors like me and some have invited me to their practice. 😛 The doctors are volunteers as well. It looks like now I have a bunch of choices to choose from to shadow and volunteer.
It's always good to know several doctors, especially the ones that volunteer themselves, they are especially nice and are willing to help pre-dents.

Anyway I just wanted to give an update.

Mel 😀

p.s. I also found a community hospital that needs a volunteer for their free mobile Dental clinic. I am hoping that I can also volunteer there. Wish me luck :luck:

ANything extra curricular. Adcoms want to see that you are also a person and not just a worry wort bookworm. It doesn't all have to be medical or detal related either. I coached little league football, was on the boxing team, and played in a band. There's a whole range of things you can put down.
