Hi Guys!

I don't know if anyone else has this same problem but I have too many extracurriculars/volunteer experience for that section (the limit is 10!)
Now I'm trying to pick and choose which ones are important and not.

Does anyone know what is important for the committees to see. I have things ranging from being a member of a pre-dental club on campus, honor societys, student government, sorority, to teaching my own course and starting a club, to volunteering at church, in the LGBT community, and holding positions in the asian american department and in student housing (in addition to a job in student housing).

I'm just torn on which things to leave out of my application and which to include.

Also does anyone know what the point is behind them having us place in an order of which that it is most important to us??

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! 🙂

Everything is important. Pick the ones that you were most involved with or gained the most from. They ask for the order so that they know what you personally found important..

OK, so maybe this isn't politically correct advice, but I would start by leaving off stuff that is the most likely to isolate an admissions committee. I guess in this case I would leave off religious stuff first and maybe the LGBT stuff second. This are both well and good, but who knows who will be reviewing your stuff.

Just my opinion, that when you have enough EC's leave off anything that is potentially controversial.

I'm ashamed and quite shocked that SDN's very own Mother Teresa would suggest such a thing. There's a problem with society when people see sexual orientation and religion as an isolation factor, rather than something to be open and proud about.

I think LGBT and religious things are great to have, and in all honesty, it makes you unique. OP - don't listen to this bigotry. Be proud of what you've done and the many other people you've supported through your positions.

^hmm I never thought about that. I'm not saying that im LGBT, I was just an LGBT ally and for lack of a better explanation its basically a straight person who has taken classes and workshops to be certified to be an ally to the LGBT community so that LGBT people can confide in you and come to you if you need help. Do you think that that's still controversial?

and amalgamgrillz thanks so much for your advice!! I agree with you, I thought it would make me stand out I just wasn't so sure.

I was not saying there is anything wrong with the activities whatsoever, I am saying if it came down to picking and choosing which activities to include in your list of 10 I would take off any potential source of controversy first. My opinion only.
