Ive taken a self-paced weight training course at a community college 10 times. They are Pass/Fail. I've passed all of them except one (very annoyed as I should have passed it)

Will this one F in a self-paced weight training course count against me in anyway? I will be submitting my community college transcript as Ive taken some gen eds & gen chem there.

It will count as all coursework has to be included. The good news is that I am guessing it was only a one hour class and it would have been much worse if you got a F in a 'real' course. If you have a decent reason and your app is strong everywhere else, it won't be a big deal.

Everybody wanna be big man, ain't nobody wanna lift them heavy weights.

I don't think classes that are Pass/Fail are counted into GPA, but they will still see it.

Dude u're screwed, med schools will ask if u can't pass a non-academic weight training class, then u have NO chance at pathophysiology!!

J/K this isn't "physiology of weight lifting" it's non-academic class and u could have failed due to a bad back etc.. No one will hold this against you.

wait....how did you fail it? you don't have to answer if you don't want to but i'm intrigued. Did you go around doing bicep curls in the squat rack, dropping weights on people's toes and staring way too much at any girls present in the gym?

Well 9 out of 10 is still 90%, and that's an A. But did you have to show consistent gains and then for one of the classes you didn't? Pretty sure that's called a plateau...You need to mix it up to get past that. I know someone that can help....

But seriously....What did happen? I too understand if you don't want to answer!

i'm guessing OP got a case of serious roid rage and the teacher decided it merited an F. that blows, op. sorry

Haha I was in the gym the other day and I saw a guy who looked like he was on steroids (I'm not trying to be judgemental he just did! But maybe he wasn't! Who knows!) and he was using his blackberry as his music player and something called him in the middle of his lift. He stopped and literally screamed "I told you not to call me when I'm lifting!" at the person right in the middle of the gym and then hung up and went on his way! It was pretty dramatic actually haha

That may or may not have been me.

@OP: On AMCAS you will list any coursework taken pass/fail separately so it will not count in your GPA, but they WILL see it. Personally, I wouldn't really worry to much about it -- there isn't anything you can do now, right?

I don't understand how you can fail a weight class.

:wtf:

Perhaps, it was an attendance issue. Like 3 unexcused absences = fail? That's was how my gym classes were.

At most schools they drop you before they fail you.

Wait, what schools are these?? I was under the impression that schools will happily still collect tuition for your failure rather than drop you. Not to mention that they think a certain number of Fs is good to help judge the class (okay, they don't have an "F" quota but administrators are not fans of classes where everyone gets an "A," they enjoy distributions).

My community college has a three-absences: drop policy o.o

It dropped me out of my swimming class cause I got bored of swimming 😛

As for my 4-year uni, I don't think anybody collect attendance, ever.

true for my sci classes, even though the teacher knew if you were there or not (small class sizes)...so it was to your advantage to go.

but for humanities, attendence is almost alllways taken, and if you miss >3 you sometimes can't get an A, can't get participation pnts, fail the class, etc.

This makes me proud of the "A" that I received in my "Coaching High School Soccer" class that I took my senior year of college. The class was taught by my college soccer coach who gave all of his players an automatic "A" if they took his class.

Actually, I did coach soccer at the high school level for one season after I graduated from college. I think I felt guilty about that class and wanted to do penance for my sins.

Since you essentially took it credit/no credit, it shouldn't factor into your GPA. Hopefully, if it says "fail" instead of "F," AMCAS won't include it in your GPA. You should be fine.

Dunno about the OP, but I'm in weight training right now, and there are times where it's hard to motivate to go. Not because I don't like lifting weights, but because there's absolutely no penalty if you DON'T go. Except, of course, if you miss 25% of the classes and fail...

Probably the one F most med schools accept and expect on a pre-meds app

For those of you dying to know the answer: I apparently didnt put in amount of time necessary to pass. Im sure I did though (why the **** would I not fill out the entire sheet and willingly recieve an "F"?) I received an F in the same class the semester before, I told him to review the time sheet, he did, and changed my grade to pass. The 2nd time he seemed as though he just didnt want to keep double checking his work (despite having made a mistake in the past) and denied my request to double check it.

Ive never taken the course again.

Is there a way I can block this user? Anyone?

i used to be on a weight gain regime with tons of calories (i think it was ~4000/day for me) and i got up to around 150. But it was just taking way too much effort to eat all that and I didn't like being uncomfortably full after a meal, 6 times a day. now i just eat whatever and head out to all you can eat korean bbqs after an exceptionally tough workout.

I failed weight training 2 times in high school because I would just get tired really quickly and stopped seeing any point in going

he thought it was because I wasn't working hard enough to gain the weight needed to not get tired so he failed me

then I found out I had really bad hyperthyroidism and he felt like crap
he gave me an A the next two times for effort

I almost didn't graduate high school because of that class :O

Haha I have a friend like that! How tall are you? He is 6'2" and weighs 145 pounds and eats as much as he can whenever he can and wont go past 150! I took him to the gym to try and help him and found out that my fiance who is 93 pounds can lift more than him! Haha oh well though you are what you are...and it's a blessing! When you're older you wont keep weight as easily either...so you wont have to worry about being a fat old dude! Me on the other hand...I have to be careful how I eat and how much I exercise and the such...because obesity runs rampant in my family! I bet I will be huge when I get older!

Check out tmuscle.com if you're having trouble - you might be eating the wrong things or you might be doing the wrong workouts, and tmuscle has a lot of great articles. Honestly I just eat somewhere around 2000 /day and my numbers almost doubled when I started seriously lifting last year.
