Hi all,
I graduated in '13 and am just applying for med school after working in research to improve my application. I took the MCAT did really well but my undergrad GPA was lower. I was an athlete and worked throughout my 4 years. When I requested my transcripts I found that I received an "F" in online computers after I had graduated. I had had a conversation with my academic advisor before starting my last semester and miscalculated my how many units I needed to graduate (forgot to count the semester I was currently in (insert eye roll)). After explaining to him that I had plenty of units to graduate he agreed to drop the online computer class. Apparently that didn't happen and I didn't see it because he signed me up for the summer class that started after I had graduated. Now he has left my school and I have an "F' on a transcript and no one seems to want to help. I don't know what to do. I can explain this grade but with an already lower than average GPA the situation feels pretty dismal and I'm not sure if I should postpone applying until I retake the F***ing ONLINE COMPUTER CLASS or risk it and hope that admissions people are in a sympathetic mood when they come across my app.

Any advice??!! I feel like there should be a loop hole or something that says if you didn't know you were in the class you shouldn't get a grade for it.

Sincerely,

That blows royally. It sounds like the only thing you can do is continue to press the administration to see if there's anyway it can be changed to a W or to get it off the transcript entirely. Hopefully somebody with more experience with something like this can offer advice because I would hate to see somebody's application be affected by something like this.

On my school's enrollment website. It says that I am financially and academically responsible for all classes on my schedule. It also says failure to go to classes does not result in withdrawal.

A very similar thing happened to me. I withdrew from school completely and later found out that 1 of my classes was showing an F instead of a W. I was lucky that the registrar fixed it with a simple email. They used common sense to see that I had 2 Ws and an F, so logically the F should have been a W.
