F30 vs F31 Diversity

As the Title suggests, I'm looking into applying for the F30 or F31-. Since I'm a URM MD/PhD Student, I'm eligible for both. Is there any difference between them outside of eligibility criteria? I'm working in a vision neuroscience lab, and someone in my lab recently got an F30 from NIMH. Any insights would be great.

Talk to the program officers of the institutes that are likely to fund you. Some institutes will not fund a F30 from a MSTP whereas they would fund a F31 diversity from a MSTP. Vision neuroscience and NIMH might be a bit of a stretch, somehow it worked. PM me if needed.
