The last part of both of the diagrams on FA 2012-p114 is not making sense to me. Especially, the one after the number 3 on bottom. Can anyone please help?

Also, on the next page (115), is it important to memorize that diagram? I know the main enzymes, but didn't memorize the diagram.

I don't have FA2012 but I know it had a lot of errata. Have you looked yet to make sure it's not a typo?

The 2013 version has significantly less errata. I'm using it and plan on getting the 2014 version to prepare for my exam next summer.

Yes, I have corrected all of the errata. Best of luck to you on your exam...

If you are talking about glycogen synthesis and degradation diagram:
(the diagram is terrible, btw)

After the chain is created, branching enzyme makes the "more compact structure" by branching the chain.
Degradation starts with shortening of chains by glycogen phosphorylase, leaving dextrin. Eventually, debranching enzyme comes into play (doing the debranching).

This should be it in simplest terms, but you should probably look into some reference text, such as Lippincott 🙂

Thanks for the explanation. And yes that's the diagram I was referring to. It is so confusing. I did look it up in other references.

Well, not being a US student, I am not that familiar with first aid. However, I did buy it in case I decide to take the steps. In general, biochemistry really doesn't seem great there (plenty of diagrams are confusing).

I used Lippincott's as my primary source for the biochemistry course and I found it quite user-friendly and doable in the few weeks of biochemistry.
Biochemistry may be tough to learn from the lecture notes alone so if you are still taking the course, you should probably read a textbook 🙂
