Hi all, I have noticed in recent posts that anesthesiologists pay and hours worked can vary tremendously. Some people work less hours and yet make more money than others who work more hours. I was just wondering what kind of factors influence this? How much of it depends on where you did your residency, your location, or is it just luck being in the right place at the right time?
thanks for your thoughts

Many, many factors affect your income:

1. Private insurance:medicare:no pay ratio of the practice.
2. Model of reimbursement (blended rate, lump and divide, hourly rate, etc.)
3. Case types (Less for cardiac and vascular unless in a heavily insured area)
4. Partnership track
5. Number of partners
6. Volume

Many, many others.

As the poster above noted, your reimbursement on the coastal regions is on average lower unless you happen to have connections to groups working high dollar areas (Beverly Hills, etc.).
