Having a connection to a school is never bad thing. If anything, a family faculty member at a med school will help your case. Most schools, in fact, ask for names of family members that went to (or are faculty at) that particular med school on their secondary applications.
👍 does not always help, but CANNOT hurt (unless your parent pissed off the dean or chancellor.. in which case, do not bother applying unless you like throwing away money).
It's funny though, I've heard of cases of faculty who decided they want to go to medical school get rejected by the medical school they TEACH at.
I'd ask your folks. Hey, with the political climate at work, what's the chance you can put in a good word for me with the adcom? They'll probably have the best sense of how much impact they can have.
