does anyone know whether fafsa is "a slice in time" or whether it takes into account future plans that will change the money?

also, does this year's award influence next year's, beyond whatever characteristics are common to both applications?

My understanding is that it is a slice in time. When I start school, I'll be giving up a substantial salary. The couple of medschool fin. aid depts. I've contacted told me there is some form to fill out when school starts to indicate loss of salary-along with a letter from my employer verifying that I have left my position. It looks like the initial aid package will be calculated based on my current income. I'll just be very active in speaking with the fin. aid officer once things become more concrete.
