FAFSA: Fill it out?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think that is something you should ask of the individual financial aid offices at the schools to which you will have been admitted. I'm pretty sure you are required to do so for the schools to document your financial situation. Whether you decide to utilize loans or ulterior means of funding your education is something you are free to decide after the schools respond with their financial package/plan for you.

You should also pre-qualify yourself for a mortgage in case you go house hunting.

why not? it just gives you some options. you don't HAVE to take it.

In the time you spend posting this and reading replies, you could have just filled it out.

Yeah

Once you have the required materials, it takes you a little over an hour - even less when you renew it every year afterwards.

Don't forget to find out whether or not your parents need to submit their info as well. This can be a major hassel for some people, particularly non-trads, but may pay off in scholarships and so forth (depending on the schools individual policy).

Should I fill out the FAFSA even if I likely will not take out loans?

Wow. Just... wow. So you really have a spare quarter million dollars? More power to you.

he/she may not, but um, his parents might...some parents set up trust funds for their kids, or do well enough financially that loans are out of the question. In which case the extra hour filling it out, forcing your parents to go through hassles like digging thru their IRS statements is just annoying, being that the school will be getting their money in full anyway....

Just fill out your FAFSA, it can in no way hurt you. You'll need your return and your parent's tax return to give all the correct information. You can do it online at FAFSA's website, and it takes all of 20 minutes if you have all your info ready.
