FAFSA opens October 1st. How do we fill it out if we plan to attend dental school?

Hi all,

I just got a notice from my university that it's finally time to start filling out the FAFSA form. However, as a pre-dent student currently in the application process, would anything change for me when filling out FAFSA? I'm expecting to start dental school Fall 2018 (assuming I get in). Should I fill out FAFSA as though I was attending another year at my University? How does it work with dent school? Do I wait until I get an acceptance to fill it out?

You say you will be the grad/professional student (whatever the term is)
You use YOUR income (and not your parents') LAST year. If it's zero, you put zero. (It doesn't matter, it's all loans, anyway).
You don't use your parent info because you will be an independent(grad) student for FAFSA purposes.
You can select and send your information to all of the dental schools you applied to/ or think you might get into (since there is a limit). You can always go back to change this.

any advantage to applying to fafsa early for dental schools?

Hey guys!
So, I am about to begin the process of filling out the FAFSA forms but have no idea what I am doing. For undergrad, I put in my parents' income. Since I'll (hopefully) be attending dental school in the upcoming fall, I should fill out the FAFSA form using MY income as @allantois stated (like, all i made last year was $4500 lol). Any guidance would be helpful.

Parental income won't matter since there is no longer any need-based aid. You can put your income as well but it also won't matter since they will still offer you full loans to cover the cost of attendance. You can put $0 for both and you will receive the same financial aid package.

But won't my income affect the amount of "free" money that I get (grants etc, not loans)?

From what I understand, all that will be offered is loans. These loans are not based on income, so it doesn't matter.

That sucks! I honestly thought the process worked similar to undergraduate where you are offered grants and loans alike. Apparently not.

If your university is going to offer any scholarships, they may need your parents' tax information on there. The dental schools that do give out scholarships (no matter how small), tend to be on a needs-basis instead of academic-basis.

Get used to being the idea of uncle sam's female dog for a while. The sooner you come to terms with it, the less it will hurt when you figure out you can't afford that lambo

But I don't even want a lambo. Just an affordable, reliable, relatively nice vehicle. I just want to be able to buy myself something every once in awhile 🙁

I can't find the federal school codes to add the schools to my FAFSA app. I'm looking for Upenn, temple, columbia, harvard, maryland, and rutgers.

edit:
are they the same codes as the undergraduate federal codes for those schools? For ex: if temple's code is xyz, then the temple dental school is also xyz?

Anyone know how I can find the federal codes so I can add the schools to my FAFSA list?

Literally just type it in on google. "UPENN dental school code" and it's pretty easy to find -- 003378
Same for other schools
