2 questions

1) is the fafsa code for a specific med. school same as for the undergrad.

2) does being dependent or independent of my parents affect my financial aid?

1. No....but it will help you search for it on the online fafsa itself
2. You are an independent student for fafsa automatically. You parent's info is not considered.

1) For some schools it's the same, for some it's not. When you fill out your FAFSA and use the school code search, a list of schools will be generated to pick from. You can also double check by doing a search for the school code on the school's website.

2) For med school, I think you will automatically be considered an independent.

whoops, somebody already answered...

2) All applicants for $ for post bac schools (grad, professional, etc) are considered independent. But if you want to see if your school has any $ for you (in addition to fafsa), you should check with their finaid office (cuz you might need info from at least one parent).

I think my FAFSA is broken. I filled it out and my online Student Aid Report said my EFC (estimated family contribution) is 0 which is impossible. Is this just because I'm applying to a professional school so they're just looking at me as an independent, in which case the schools can use the parental information for themselves? Or is there something seriously wrong?

I don't want to ruin my chances for loans... 😕

Yes. Parents are not considered for graduate/professional FAFSA.

Thanks... I was a little worried that I'd messed up a number somewhere.
