I definitely want to get loans and grants to pay for dental school, but I'm pretty positive I won't get any financial aid because my parents make too much money. Do I still need to fill out FAFSA or is it required in order to receive loans?

I've never filed for FAFSA before and it seems like a lot of work if I'm not going to get anything out of it anyway.

Any other general information about loans or grants is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

That FAFSA is pretty easy to fill out, especially if you are not going to provide parental info (not required for grad/independent students). I think there are some loans that you are only eligible for if you provide parental info though. It's pretty easy to fill out the FAFSA online and it's free. Might as well do it to see what you can get. You have nothing to lose except maybe a few minutes. Otherwise you can probably get private loans -- maybe go talk to a bank or something.

I'm pretty sure that all educational loans have to go through the government now. You can't just stroll up into a bank and say hey!! anymore.

In dental school you are viewed as an independant. In order to be eligible for the stafford loans you must fill out fafsa with your parents tax info.

Also I'm pretty sure that since dental students are classified as independent, you'll be eligible for certain types of federal aid, even if your parents make a lot of money. From my understanding their numbers don't have much bearing on your award.

Ask the financial aid department at your dental school...You don't want to miss any deadlines and find out too late that you could have received some aid.

Your parental tax info is unnecessary. Fill out fafsa with your own information, and you'll be able to secure your stafford and plus loans.

U of Mich requires parental info but says it isn't important. But my parents with parents netting about 200,000 it said expected family contribution was 20,000
