How does it work how? It's used to get free money from uncle sam...it is also used when uncle sam wants to loan you some money that you have to pay him back later when you get that big job making $$$$

you fill out the fafsa over the internet and it should get sent to all the schools you indicate on it (don't remember their website - just follow the links off some school's financial aid section). you can call your school's financial advisor to make sure you're doing things right too. usually, they say that you should fill out the fafsa by march, but earlier only means less of a hassle later.
now that we are applying to med school, do we apply as independents or still add parental info?
Unless I'm mistaken, we have to include our parent's info. The typical grad school student doesn't need to include their parent's info but I remember reading somewhere that those pursuing degrees in healthcare related areas must include the info.

Medical school is considered grad school so you don't have to include your parents info. It was suggested by a finacial aid officer at a texas med school that we wait until late January to fill out our fafsas because they are always working out the bugs in the beginning of the process. He stated that so people who have applied right away end up getting screwed because they find out months later that there was a glitch in the program in early January. They don't test the system well and so the first to apply are the guinea pigs. He stated that late January/early February was early enough to get the grant money and there is no rhyme or reason on who gets those monies.
