Fail a class
Started by landakerjenna
I failed Calculus the first time a took it, a big fat F. Granted I had made mostly A's and a few B's and nothing lower than that. I was at a place in my life where I was unsure where I would end up career-wise. I was majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Math. I quit going to Calculus and missed the drop date. It was too late once I found out so I was put on academic probation as a consequence. This was in the Fall of 2005 and it was all that I needed to get my act together. I switched my major to Biology and minor to Chemistry. I decided on pharmacy that following spring. Luckily I had gotten Physics and most Chemistry classes out of the way. I have waited to re-take Calculus this semester because I have been so scared that I would fail again....so far, with a lot of hard work and extra hours of studying, I have made a 100 on my first two tests. I think I just needed to prove it to myself that I am capable, I just wasn't willing back in '05. I applied in November and I felt great about everything on my transcript...except for that stinking F!!! I was so scared it would be my downfall and everyone I worked with heard about it all the time. Long story but it has a great ending....I was placed in early decision at Texas Tech and at UNM. My number one choice was Tech and I was accepted last week. It has made it all worth it. I think the adcomm knows if you made a bad decision, especially if it was a one time thing. It all depends on everything else you have going for you: work experience, total GPA, science GPA, LORs, EC's, etc. Don't let a mistake get you down, you just might surprise yourself like I did 🙂

I have 3 F's on my transcripts including 5 D's. I retook those classes and earned at least C's or better and managed to get into pharmacy school. 🙂
what school?
Well, I have 1 F and 2 D's and I'm still waiting. I retook all of those classes to get a B- or better. Due to PharmCAS's system, my GPA is dragged down, the only way to bring it up is to take pointless classes or just work towards a bachelor's.

Most people suggest you do not take pointless classes to bring up your GPA. Adcoms are not *****s, they can see right through that. Better work on your Bachelor's instead.

I am like having a "C" in class right now 🙁 🙁
I have one caution when retaking courses: find out if the school allows grade replacement or just averages them. Many schools won't do grade replacement for pharmacy.
At that point it makes you a stronger applicant to take higher level course and do well than retake Orgo II because you got a C.

Hey Guys,
All in all, you wanna do as well as possible when it comes to your grades. But unusual circumstances do come up.
Through my path towards pharmacy school, I got an F on Bio 1A and Physiology, and a D in a Gen Ed Class. Many people told me my future as a pharmacist was over... and that I shouldn't even try.
I decided to retake many of my classes to bring up my gpa. Although Pharmcas averaged the grades, I still ended up being better off retaking the classes t;hen leaving the D's and F's.
This is my 2nd time applying to Pharmacy School. I had interviews at both Univ. of Maryland (A top 10 research school in the nation) and Thomas Jefferson University. I was offered admission into both programs. 🙂
Don't let minor set backs deter you from your goals. If I could get in with my stats, I'm sure others can to. Just make sure your overall package is strong - LOR, EC, Work Experience, PCAT Scores, etc. Good Luck Everyone.

what school?
Belmont University.
Did any one fail a class anf get into Pharmacy school after reataking it?
I failed English (due to cheating--long story), got a D in vertebrate anatomy, and more C's than I care to think about as an undergrad. Retook all those classes, aced nearly all of them and got interviews and waitlisted at my top two schools. Granted I did post-bac 15 years after my undergrad, but still it's definitely possible.
