So I failed a teaching course my first semester of college. I retook the class and got an A-. Since then I have received almost all As (a few A-s) and my GPA is now 3.5. I'm planning for it to be around 3.67-3.7 when I graduate in a year or two.

Do I have a shot? Someone said I'm not likely to get in because that F is a red flag. I want the truth but I don't want to give up

You were told wrong. It's a common pre-med delusion that a single bad grade will keep you out of med school.

You should be prepared to talk about it at interviews though.

A red flag is continued academic failure, with no amelioration. Add in poor choice making and you have a non-viable candidate.

It won't keep you out of school but be ready to explain it. I had to explain that grade for 90% of my interviews and just left a interview today where I spend 3 minutes of my time explaining it. Best way to do it Is take responsibility for the slip in grades give something you learned about the incident and how you will move on from that experience. And don't dwell on the issue!! Answer the question enough to satisfy the question and then move on
