just found out that I failed the written comlex level II by one point. one stinky point. I have never failed any tests before and this is just a HUGE setback, especially when it came out the SAME day I sent out my ERAS application. So now, I can't even count on program directors not seeing it until after I retake it or something like that.
Anyway, I talked to the residents on my IM subinternship rotations and they were all very encouraging saying that since my rotation performance was great, have had lots of research experinces and publications, missed it only by one point, and most importantly, US graduate, I should still have no problems with landing IM interviews and getting matched this year.
what do you guys think? I have applied to 46 programs, should I add more to my list?
I have read some of other threats with similar problems of mine. Frankly, they are not very encouragin... one of them is taking a whole year off because of the failed step II... and some of them are saying that it probably comes down to scrabmble.
and I requested for a score recheck and of course, there seems to be a consistent opinion that recheck is a waste of money since 100% of the re-check result if no change.
so sad. 😡

Well, all I can say is that I'm there with you and I feel your pain right now. I also found out that I failed comlex step 2 CE. I was quite shocked actually because I thought I was going to do better than my step 1 scores. I also just submitted my application the same day that the scores came out because I was waiting for the scores to come back hoping they would help my application. I'm also applying for IM, but I haven't applied to as many programs as you. Perhaps I should increase the number of programs significantly?
I'm just hoping that the programs that already know me from rotating there will still be interested in interviewing me.
What other options are there if you don't match? Is the scramble the only option? Can you just do a traditional rotating internship and then try again as a pgyII??
Interested to hear some replies.

Hmm, what should I do if I don't match? Is scrambling my only optin?
I really didn't think that my chances are this bad until visiting other threads regarding similar situations at SDN. I know level II is important, but I really thought that the programs will look at the "entire" package as they always claim to do. So, I thought I'm going to have to settle for mediocre programs in IM, but not to the point of having to scramble....
Sounds like the general opinions on this forms are worse than I expect.
So, worst case scenario: scramble. Worse than worst scenario: take a year off.

Well I think it depends on a few situations...first off...how was your comlex 1 score? did you take the USMLE step 1 or 2? These 3 factors can change your outcome...also how are your grades? What about the program you are at right now...are they going to interview you while you are there? If all of this does not fit your profile...think about going to Valley in Vegas??? not too sure about the quality of the program from what I hear from previous resident...but you cant be too picky at this point...plus it seems that they are willing to take anyone...last year they did not fill the spots...so good luck on your second try...and dont wait too long to take it again...
