Any Advice Or Anyone Take It Recently?

This Test Was Terrible. I Studied More Than Ever. I Even Used A Week Of Vacation Reading And Doing Questions. They Give You One Line Of Information And Expect You To Come Up With A Diagnosis.

Dont Waste You Time On Strong Medicine, Boards And Wards Or Crush. They Didnt Help At All.
There Were Pictures I Had No Idea What Part Of The Body It Was Because It Was Zoomed In So Close.

There Was Tons Of Omm On My Exam Especially Sacral And Cranial. There Were Questions How To Position The Patient.
If I Dont Pass This Time I Get Booted From The Program.

Topics Include
Cardiac Anomalies In Children
Vitamin Def Questions It Was Matching
Cva What Location
Diabetes Derm Questions From Pictures
C/i For Immunizations
C/i For Antibiotics
A Few Bloody Discharge From Penis Questions
Counterstain Question How To Position The Patient.
Torch
Fibular Head Questions
Thyroid Question

Dude....I am sorry to hear that you failed.

I have posted a lot on this board about how difficult step 3 is compared to Steps 1 and 2. I totally agree. The old adage about 2 months 2 weeks, 2 days is totally false.

Sounds like you prepared from review sources but no real text. I noticed that my STEP 3 had a TON of internal and family medicine. And a lot of the questions are out of Harrisons and Wash manual and review books like Crush, Strong, B&W simply do not go into enought detail.

Why dont you try...a medicine text this time.

Keep your head up....its only a test...it doesnt mean anything about how good of a dr you are!

I feel your pain: I was unsuccessful my first time back in October. Granted, I tried to pass without studying (I'm in Pathology, no less!)--big mistake! I take it again this Friday and Saturday...I did the same as you this time around: took off a week to do questions, and I've been reading crush and first aid. This time, I also took an NBME practice exam (something I did for the previous two steps and neglected to do the last go-around). I'm hoping the NBME exam will be predictive of my results as it was on the first two steps. Perhaps it might be good for you to take it. It's $45, but you get a breakdown of how well you performed in all the subject areas; it may be a way to focus your studying. Just a thought.

Anyhow, I know how much of a blow failing this test is; don't let it get the best of you!

Best of luck!!

Do,
What did you use to study for Step 3 this time?
As VentDependent mentioned try:

strong medicine
HY obgyn
NMS step III
Saverese

I'm sorry to hear that you had a tough time with it. Keep your chin up, you'll get it next time. About your program, the terms under which you stay or the conditions under which your contract may or may not be reviewed are in your contract. It's going to need to say specifically about comlex failures. If there is some sort of academic problem there are going to have to be documented instances of it as well as documentation showing that you have or have not remiediated whatever the issue is. They can't just toss you without considerable backup.

Just curious - where do you get your information? This would be very interesting if you had a legal backup. I know someone who is in this situation right now and having failed Step 3 in the past I know how concerned they are.

If you have legal resources - let us know about them.

BTW Strong Medicine is a book that is currently used to study for the USMLE/Comlex Step 3. Savarese is the OMT book that is also used for the Comlex Step 3 since no OMT is covered in Strong Medicine. Look over previous threads and do a search on Amazon. You can find all of these and plenty of other resources.
