Hi, I am an IMG applying for internal medicine during this application cycle. I just found out that I failed the ICE portion of the Step 2 CS and am quite nervous about my chances. I appreciate any
guidance you have to offer.

I'll try to retake CS but result will come in 3 months at the earliest.

Please advise me what should I do in terms of applying for a match 2014.

A: Should I apply broadly this coming September 2013 and retake CS meanwhile?

B: Should I apply next year and try to do something that can help with
my application?

C: Should I apply broadly and prepare my application for next year as
well, in case I don't get enough interview this year? (Which will be
very costly)

- If anyone went through a similar situation, please let me know what
you did for your application.

Thank you.

If I were you I would apply next year for a shot at a decent program. I don't think an IMG with a fail on CS will be that appealing to any internal med program. IMG or US-IMG? Chances are always a bit better for citizens.

Do something clinical to prove you're competent before ERAS opens next year (residency in Poland? or if you are an EU citizen, Foundations in the UK might be a better choice) and obviously re-take CS and pass in the meantime. More clinical experience is always helpful.

If those aren't options, you can always look for research positions in the U.S. Tough situation, sorry it did not go well.
