Hey all,

I am currently taking Biochemistry II and I'm failing the class. I only have the final left and by the looks of it, I still won't really be able to put to a C. I can't withdraw because the deadline has passed and my school only letsyou petition if you have a medical reason.

The thing is I am applying this app season when AMCAS opens so I don't know how screwed I am. My GPA is 3.76 and I aced Biochem I.

Any advice or guidance is appreciated on what I should do or do in the future as I'm applying. Thank you.

Study your butt off, ace the final, and cross your fingers for a C. Then if it comes to it, include a note on your application about why you think you did so poorly (if you get less than a C), assuming you have a reason beyond senioritis.

Other than that, there's not much you can do at this point. The time for figuring out what to do has past; just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

There might be a surprise curve, so in addition to working your tuchus off, pray for that. I had a physics class once that I was failing woefully – I mean I had like a 25% near the end – but it turned out that it was graded weirdly and I actually got a B+.

You might ask the teacher if there will be any extra credit options that would help you bring your grade up. Let him/her know how important this is to you.

In my experience, they will generally respond that it would be unfair to offer that chance to you over everyone else; that you had just as much opportunity as everyone else to do well in the class, and that you've got to reap the consequences of your mistakes. It's not like the grade wasn't important to everyone else who is doing better in the class, and they responded by taking the steps necessary to secure the grade they wanted.

Not saying it's not worth a shot... just don't expect much sympathy.

Don't stress. Do well on the final and your teacher may give you some lenience. If not, no worries. You have a good GPA and one class isn't going to change it much this late in the game. Good job with the 3.7+ 👍

Agree with all of the above. Try to do the absolute best you can from here on out. Agree with talking to the professor....at the least you can ask for as many study tips as you can, and perhaps get a tutor for the rest of the semester. Do whatever you can do to get a decent grade...try to pull a C at least...I don't think you will be totally hosed if you can do that.
