Is there anyone out there that has recently taken Falcon Review that would like to share their experience of it?? I’m having a really difficult time finding any sort of posting/information from someone who has taken it within the last 6months or so…. Perhaps someone can point me to a posting that I may have overlooked??

Anyway, I’m interested in possibly taking the course, but would like to get some real student feedback before I shell out $$$ for it…

well if you are a fan of goljan, i heard he is working w/ falcon now in teaching the path portion

whatever you decide, don't go with Falcon's online course. Its sooooo bad and such a waste of money.

..thanks for the info b/c i was considering the online course instead of the live lecture version, but not so sure now.

but with all the hype Falcon seems to receive, there must be someone out there who has recently taken the live course in Dallas with some relevant information to share??!!

Falcon notes are not enough. The BEST prep notes out there are Kaplan live lecture notes - 8 books in all including Q book. I'm attending Falcon review this month in TX but will only study the Kaplan live lecture notes. Falcon teach using these stupid ppt files!

I'm in the Dallas course right now.

Yes, it's worth it. I don't know about the online stuff, but the opportunity to get away is ceratinly worth it. The Falcon materials are sufficient for actually learning the material, but not very good for straight, easy memorization.

how much does goljan's new stuff differ from the audio tapes?

I wish I could tell you about the live lectures, but I've heard it's well worth it. I regret taking the online review course that I'm currently doing right now. I signed up for the 2 month option and they basically send you the "books" and you're really on your own. The books are their powerpoint slides that the online lectures go over and a few questions thrown here and there. I'm pretty disappointed so far and I have not seen any kind of refund policy. I've had trouble with the videos (which have been the fault on their end) and will usually get an email response within 2 days...not very conducive to my study plan as I have to wait for these issues to resolve. The material is thorough, but if you're looking for a more "high-yield" course that has received great reviews try Doctors In Training.

Hope this helps!

i've had 2 good friends take this course and they said it was not at all worth their money. they wish they'd just spent that time studying FA, UW, and other resources. the way i see it, if you've been out of the classroom for a while or you never bothered to learn pathology in 2nd yr, falcon is for you since it's basically rehashing everything in 2nd yr. if you actually studied or understood basic anatomy and path of the diseases, you're better off using other review resources. falcon seems like they're teaching you everything again instead of just reviewing.

The teachers are good enough but the software is glitchy at best, and usually non-functional. I am writing for the third time this week to see if they can fix another video issue. It is stressful to have dropped so much money on this program, to have so little time to work through all of it, and waste literally hours trying to get the videos to play. The other thing is once the videos play a lot of them are hard to navigate, they don't have a simple rewind/fast-forward option. So if you miss something you have to jump back to the last bookmarked section which can be up to 5 minutes back, really annoying. they boast color books, but they are just printouts of the teachers powerpoints, and most aren't in color. The color scheme is different too, all the teachers have black background and the book has white so if the teacher writes in yellow or something you can't see it in your book. Then to top it all off slides are missing in the book, or the slides in the video don't sync with what the teacher is saying.

In short it feels like I am beta testing a mediocre board review system, and I need to be studying. So frustrated that I am wasting time posting here instead of studying for my boards in two weeks. Don't get the online program.

if I ask people who have taken it, I always get a mixed response, positive from those with poor preexisting basic science and negative from students with decent previous basic science. the only reason to take falcon would be goljan for me...but is that worth 5 to 6 grand? not for me.
