Fall '11 Cycle: Where are you applying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UNC. Program, location, faculty, tuition, cultural variety, proximity to hospital, facilities, funding.

Midwestern CCP
UIC
SIUE
CSU

Location, tuition, program.

You can see them in my signature. I'm really looking at location (preferably near a large city) & ranking. I'm in a bind because I change my list every other day - I want to consider Temple and possibly UGA and Northeastern, but I want to only apply to schools I can seriously see myself at - so, I guess I need to start visiting schools.

Uh, better question is where am I not applying?

I have several science classes that are really old (but will have/already have taken some upper division courses in those areas by end of next semester), so any school that puts a time frame on courses is out. And anything that requires a pharmacist LOR. My current list:

U of M - Twin Cities (absolute number one choice), Belmont (number one out-of-state choice), UH Hilo, Lipscomb, Wingate, South, Midwestern - Glendale and Downers Grove, U of M - Baltimore, South, Pacific, LECOM Bradenton and Erie, maybe Creighton... I think that is it. I am an older student (30), so I need to get on with this. I'll go wherever takes me. But I really, really want U of M or Belmont.🙂

Campbell University School of Pharmacy is my number 1.

Currently, doing a Masters with the school so I would rather finish up my Masters while doing pharmacy school then have to come back in 3 or 4 years to complete it. Also I like the close knit feeling that students get with each other and the professors.

UAMS. Mostly because it's about 10 minutes down the road.

Will be submitting an app with Harding as well, but I really.... really... really don't feel like going there.

Like I said, reaaaaaallllllllly don't feel like going there. :scared:

Then you're gonna have keep up your game to get into UAMS because I don't want you to go to Harding, either. You might not come back as the strong base we have all come to know and love.

Top 3 choices: Jefferson, UNC, Campbell
(Hubby from Philly, I'm from the Carolinas)

Next group of choices: UMd, Temple, USC (Columbia), South (Columbia)

Glad that Jeff and Campbell are rolling...so hoping to hear something back sooner rather than later.

University of Washington - My top choice
University of the Pacific
USC
UCSF
University of Montana
Ohio State University

I am sure I will be adding to this list lol

Before this summer is done I just have to get my CPhT, PCAT taken, and prepared for this fall. Ochem, Biochem, and Anatomy

I have the same Fall sked but with MicroBio instead of BioChem. Also started working at the local hospital. Certainly a dynamic work environment.

My schools are in my sig, but it is not quite finalized yet. OCT PCAT here I come!

There's also not that much to do in Searcy. I've been there and the only things that got my attention were grocery stores, pharmacies, fast food chains, and gas stations

He could come back as a weaker base 😆 Just kidding

He might not come back as a base at all 🙁

U-MD, Notre Dame, VCU, Shenandoah. Any suggestions for more? I'd like to stay around the MD area.

UT (Hook 'em!), Texas Tech, U of H, and maybe I'll bring myself to apply for TAMU. 😉 I live in Texas and I like my tuition cheap.

As far as out of state, I'm thinking of Midwestern (AZ) and Pacific for the three-year programs.

Be sure to check if it's a semester or a trimester system. Some people prefer one over the other.

FAMU, Jefferson, UMD, vcu, hampton, notre dame, umes

havn second thoughts about FAMU 😕

Midwestern CPG (AZ)
University of Arizona
University of Florida
University of the Pacfic (CA)
Pacific University (OR)
Creighton University
Kansas University
University of Southern Nevada

I took into account location, accreditation, program length, pre-requisite courses, and PCAT requirements.

University of Houston and UT Austin (my top choice and alma mater). I can't quite bring myself to apply to Texas Tech.

I'm looking at location, strength of clinical rotations, reputation, proximity to friends/family, and ability for my future hubby to find a new job in that city.

How were you able to find the clinical rotation options?

UT Austin- First choice.
UH
TT

I love Austin. and I also like in state tuition

How were you able to find the clinical rotation options?

I work for a major health system in Houston and talked to several clinical pharmacists including the pharmacy resident coordinator. They gave me their two cents on which Pharmacy Schools have produced better students based upon their performance and strength of clinical rotations. Also know a few people in the UT Austin Pharmacy School and talked with a few people on the forum here.

Howard
Virginia Commonwealth
St. Johns
Uni. Of Maryland
University of Florida

I want to stay close to home, urban/suburban setting. I live 10 minutes away from D.C., and I have all my life, i love it here, and I don't want to go somewhere where fun consists of binge drinking and tipping cows. Moo.

Another thing is, I want to try staying in-state - with the hopes of being accepted much easier... oh the lazy in me...

False hopes? Bahumbug.

UC San Francisco, UC San Diego, University of Pacific, Northstate, USC, Touro, MCPHS!!

Good luck to everyone applying!

Campbell 1st choice. Applied ED. Doing my Masters at Campbell.

Whatever you do, don't apply to Loma Linda University. I absolutely regret going there.

Can you give some reasons as to WHY you hate that school so much? You mention it several times and I am curious now. LOL... Please give details.

In order of preference, I am applying to:

FAMU (10 mins. from my house)
UF (great program although becoming a gator might take some getting use to)
LECOM-B (smaller school and I like the surrounding area)
PBA (possibly)
USF (Possibly)

I really want to practice in Florida after graduating pharmacy school, so I really hope that I get into a FL school. Plus, I have personally visited FAMU, UF, and LECOM-B, and they are all great programs.

Loma Linda University forces you to attend their chapel service every Wednesday, otherwise you can't graduate. They also force you to get a background check every year, and you have to pay for the services.

Why did you apply there in the first place?

Religious is school is religious?

I don't know if it's yearly, but I know for sure we have to do a background check at our school and pay for it out of pocket.

Good luck to everyone on their applications this cycle. Do your research and make sure the schools you apply to are schools you'd actually attend if offered admission. 🙂

wow everyone is applying to 5 or more schools, how much is that gone be? I ought to set aside 1k for just application fees then!! I was thinking of applying to all the Texas schools since I live in Texas.
