For those who have applied for Fall 2005, any words of advice for us beginning the application journey???

I'm a 3.10 post-bacc student with a 340AA and 340TS...and I plan on applying to UCB, SCCO, SUNY, ICO, NECO, and UofH.

I don't think you need much advice with a 340 OAT score. GPA isn't as good, but I think schools focus more on the OAT score than anything.

Hello,

Make sure you turn in your application in early! Last year, there was a 30% increase in aplicants and it definitely made things more competitive later on the in the year after they noticed. I turned in most of my apps. beginning of Jan. and the app. for UCB on the day it was due!!! Don't be like me...ehehe.

Just based on your OAT score, you would be considered above average at most schools. Since you have a lower GPA, try to get good LOR. Plus, they'll be looking at your extracirriculars and how you do at the interview...so it'll really depend! It also wouldn't hurt to get some volunteering or shadowing experience with an OD this summer too. Good luck!

If you apply early i bet youll get an interview at most if not all of those schools.

Not to be unoriginal, but just for emphasis...APPLY EARLY!!! The earlier the application, the earlier the interview, and the earlier the acceptance - you'll be relaxing by winter cause you'll already know where you'll be. 🙂

I was going to say take the OAT early, but you've already done that! 🙂

best of luck!

thanks for the advice to apply early, which I WILL DEFINITELY DO!!!

just wanted to see if anyone knew if i were to get picked for an interview, if it would be possible to postpone it if i were to be out of the country??? or would you suggest to just get the earliest appt. time regardless of other plans???

There seems to be alot of emphasis on applying early, and obviously it is a very important factor. But when is it considered early?????????? Should fall 06 applicants get there application in my July, August, or September, OCt??

I think most schools don't begin accepting applications until August 1. Probably as soon as possible after that would be good. Of course you'll have to get the transcripts and letters of recommendation sent in too. I don't really understand the importance of letters of recommendation. They're such a pain to get people to write sometimes, but no one you ask to write one is going to write something bad about you. I guess it's just another thing to see how much bs you'll do in order to get in.

if possible, turn in your application on the FIRST DAY!!! usually, this is nothing more than the basic personal information about yourself.

also, you can begin submitting your official transcripts and LORs before your application. today even. the schools will create a folder for you to hold all your submitted documents, until it is ready to be evaluated.

i think some schools have an early admission application. if you already have a school of choice, check their websites to see if they have such a thing.

I'd say Dr4eyes should not worry about anything because his OAT score is really good and his GPA is not too bad, both are higher than mine. I applied for four different schools (uhco, nova, sco, neco) at the end of january and got interviewed at all of them. I think Dr4eyes got it and would have no problem unless he does not apply on time.

thanks for your vote of confidence, odhopeful!!! 😀

You were interviewed, but did you get in to all 4 of them? Just curious.

No problem Dr4eyes. I am always wanting to look out after my fellow optometry students. Good luck and if you get into UHCO, the we can be friends....

hflyer,
I got invitation to interview at NECO, UHCO, NOVA, and SCO. I didn't go to the interview at Boston because it was too expensive for the flight and living, I am poor. I interviewed at the rest and actually was on the waitlist for all of them. I guess it's because I applied late and every where I went to interview, there were only like 10 or so spots left to fill. I then go accepted into NOVA, rejected by SCO (them bastards), and then accepted to UHCO. I am going to UHCO since that's my school of choice anyways. I guess my advice to all who are applying, DON'T WAIT TILL LAST MINUTE!!!!! because all that waiting sucked ass...... 😡

Hey ODhopeful, what are your stats?
