Hi,
I'm new to SDN but was wondering if anyone has heard back from schools of fall 2008?

I've applied to the following and have only heard back from one:
1) Drexel (accepted for Epidemiology MPH)

I am currently applying for fall 2008 and was wondering, if you wouldn't mind, telling your stats?

if you call the schools and let them know you have been accepted somewhere and are deciding, they may let you know whether or not you have been rejected (not necessarily accepted). That is what Yale told me.

epid1234, i'm in the same situation as you!

i applied to harvard, emory, Berkeley, ucla, BU, Yale, UofArizona, and Drexel and so far have only gotten accepted at drexel

i'm honestly not to keen on going to drexel since i've already lived in philadelphia for 6 years (undergrad + 2 years of working) so i'm dying to hear back from others!

does anyone know if its possible to make a deposit to a school and not go there? I may not hear back from any other schools before drexel's deposit deadline comes up.... is it taboo to call other schools and ask for your decision?

No school can force you to go there - deposit or no deposit. The only problem is that they WILL keep your deposit if you decide to withdraw.

So, I would say that if your stats are like epid's you'll be getting into a better program and probably don't need to make the deposit.

Thanks for replying everyone. BU admissions said they are backed up and will not review any fall 2008 applications until after the holidays and Yale didn't seem to happy to hear from me but they said my application is being reviewed. I don't think I'll be calling anymore schools....it's making me even more stressed.

Be very careful about posting your stats and schools. An admissions officer at one of my schools said she thought I had called her and was very rude but found it suspicious that I wouldn't give up my name. Someone may be lurking on this site and trying to ruin the competition's chances. I won't be posting anymore. Very sad.

Just heard from UPitt today, accepted for Fall 2008.

i am just now applying and im worried that its so late since people are already getting accepted. I'm also planning on using my MCAT scores (which I plan to take in April). Is this going to screw me over?

I was wondering the same thing...if applying this late for Fall 2008 is going to hurt my chances for admission. I was waiting for this semester's grades to be put on my transcript so my application could look better.

I don't think there is a need to panic if you didn't hear from most of the MPH programs you applied to. I applied to four, and the same message I get is that they will not review applications for admissions until after February 2008. So chances are, you are not hearing from them right now because they are still gathering the supporting matierals for your apps and have not reviewed them yet....

does anyone know how exactly rolling works - once you get accepted, how long do you have to decide whether or not to pay the deposit?

Are you saying you plan to use April 2008 test scores to apply for Fall 2008 positions? I'm pretty sure that's impossible, since many schools won't even review your application until they get the scores. It's part of having a complete file. My SO didn't get the confirmation that her file was complete until all parts (SOPHAS, GRE, + Letters) were received by respective schools.

Has anyone heard back from Hopkins, or heard from those who applied in previous years as to when the school begins to send out decisions on full-time applicants?

Thanks!

I've been accepted to Drexel and Pitt. Still waiting to hear from Columbia, Michigan, Yale, Emory, and Berkeley.

Emory and Michigan are supposedly rolling admission. But I had my apps completed back in early November and have yet to hear back. Anyone else heard from these schools?

i got into Tulane and GWU..waiting for Columbia..and i got rejected from Emory's EPI program..the schools got my apps Dec 11 according to SOPHAS and i heard from GWU within 2 wks, Tulane yesterday, and Emory today.

Currently applying and waiting for:

I had a question - How much loan do u think i will accumulate if i attend Emory at 44K pa. Im an intl student , so i have to get RA/TA or work in campus. But i really like Emory , wud only pick Hvd or JHU abov it.

Applying/Waiting for:

BU
GWU
Tulane
Emory
U of Minnesota
Columbia

I applied fairly recently, so I haven't heard anything yet.

Snoofle, it's interesting that you've heard from Emory. According to SOPHAS, they mailed my app on Dec. 4 and I have yet to hear back from the Epi program. On the edge of my seat...

Me Too! My application to Emory was mailed even earlier than that, and i have yet to year back too! ... also on the edge of my seat... checking the online status page all day long... haha.

they didnt even put it on my status page! they emailed a decision and said my app was going to my second choice program for review now

Snoofle, they said in the email they sent me when they received my app that if they send it to your second choice department they send an email and don't post it on your status page. Since you haven't been turned down, they haven't posted yet. You may still get accepted to your second or third choice. Good luck!

yea i know i havent been rejected from my 2nd choice. I was rejected from my first..im still waiting for my 2nd..but i really don't care for my second choice anyways anymore =/

Just heard from Emory today...accepted to the Epi program for fall 2008. 🙂 Now if only I could figure out how to pay for it...

congrats!!! man---- now i'm REALLY nervous!!! i hope i get a decision soon...

The University of Kentucky College of Public Health still has some scholarship dollars available for MPH applicants.

Any new updates for anyone? Either where they applied or where they got in/rejected?

I understand that Harvard will send out decisions at the end of February - hope this might be helpful!

waiting on Dartmouth and Yale

Does anyone know of the easiest program to be accepted to at BU. I have applied to the Human Rights program twice and have been declined. Is the Social Behavior or Maternal Child Program any easier?

Accepted: GWU, Drexel
Waiting: Columbia, JHU, Yale, UPitt
Heard from Drexel and GWU about two weeks after I sent my apps. in November(?). Columbia admissions don't send decisions until February. Congrats/Goodluck everyone!

May I ask what is your GRE/GPA/back ground?

3.4 gpa, and a little below a 1000 on gres. i don't have a public health background, jus a lot of volunteering at women's health centers and safeplaces.

Gosh, That has me worried! I hope to get into BU's MPH program in International Health.

GPA is low, ok GRE though, but do have three years in the Peace Corps as a Health Volunteer. Waiting to hear back from schools.

I think you have a greater chance than me! Being in the Peace Corp will help you out immensely. I was talking to the advisers at BU and they told me volunteer or work experience is a really big deal. I was told the International Program is a bit tough to get into but I think you'll be fine. Don't worry! 🙂

Does anyone know how many options you get witih the BU application? As in how many choices you get for concentrations? Is it just 1 per specific major?

Has anyone heard anything from UAB? When do they usually let applicants know?

i called UAB about the status of my app and all she could tell me was they had forwarded it to the committee for review..so i guess in the next few weeks..

Hopkins will be posting a batch of decisions to the online system tonight, although I would guess that these initial responses will be directed towards those that applied at the start of the cycle...more will be coming later.

If you get in, PM me! It'd be nice to meet my future classmates 🙂

how do you know this about Hopkins? have you talked to them? i am anxious now! 🙂

Also has anyone heard from University of Washington, UNC or Columbia?

Hey,

I got an admit from Emory for MPH epid fall 2008. M from India so my main concern is the cost at emory.

I have also applied to SUNY Albany, UAB Alabama, Illinois Chicago, UMass Amherst, Texas A&M, Texas Houston, Univ @ Minnesota but havent heard from them.

Can any one plz help me should I take a better school with loan to pay off my tuitions or shud I take a safer bet with a cheaper school?

I am actually in the same boat as you shikhasharma! I am deciding between BU and other cheaper options. From what I have learnt by talking to friends who have been through this..most said that the reputation of the school does matter however at the end of the day, its what you make of the MPH degree that really counts. From the list you provided above, Emory is the best and if I were in your place, I would probably choose Emory. Congratulations on your acceptance!

has anyone applied to the Emory Health Education program??

Has anyone else heard back from Emory, BU or Yale yet?

Columbia told me people who applied earlier in the cycle will probably hear by end of February

I served in Mongolia East Asia as a Community Health Volunteer, and worked with a European Aid Agency as their Public Health Officer.

Has anyone heard from BU or Yale or know when they usually send out decisions?

I just got into Hopkins MHS program. found out via email
