  1. Pre-Podiatry
Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to this forum, so please forgive me if this topic has shown up already somewhere else in the pre-podiatry forum. I was wondering if it is already too late to apply for the Fall 2009 Admission Cycle, as in matriculating in Fall of 2009. I know podiatry is very different from the other health professional schools (vet, allopathic, osteopathic, dental, optometry, etc) but my friends in all of those fields have already submitted applications, interviewed, and have been accepted. So my question is am I too late for 2009?

Also, with regards to financing podiatry school, provided I am not too late for applying...what is the general criteria for scholarships? I am looking at 8 out of the 9 schools (not applying to Arizona) and I'm a bit concerned on financing podiatry school..

Thanks!

Do you mind if I ask why not Arizona?

No you're not too late, you still have time. I just set up an interview with Barry and had one schedule for DMU at the end of Jan too. For the most part Scholarship is strictly GPA based. Higher the GPA, higher the scholarship. I know at Ohio, I had a 3.95, and the scholarship was $10,000. I wouldnt worry too much about financing, with scholarships and loans, you'll be fine. You will be making 6 figures once you graduate, so your debts will be paid.

I'm in the same boat that he's in but I'm a Canadian permanent resident. Do you know the differences that my situation presents? In terms of financing; also, for admission requirements?

Stats: Science gpa: 3.1 , AO: 3.6, Total: 3.25
(This is upwards tending, my overall gpa was 3.8 in my final year).
Sep 3 MCAT: 31R
I am a Bio major and I was going to wait till the next cycle to apply to medical school. My dream is to work with professional athletes in some capacity. I had my mind set on orthopedic surgery but just recently found out about podiatry. I've looked into it and realized it's no different than what I hope to be doing. Any advice you guys can give my would be greatly appreciated.

roninishya:
Don't apply. If you are asking this question on this forum you are most likely a pre-med, dental, whatever that realizes they don't have the grades and scores to get in and want to know if you can get into pod school next fall (maybe to please mom and dad or yourself?). If you were serious you would know the answer to this question and not fishing on the forum.

dadadadoc:
Tuition and everything should be the same. Contact pod schools about any residency issues. You're a shoe in, in terms of your scores. Good luck on the app process.

Thanks a lot man

To ronny7: The only reason why I won't be applying to Arizona is that I don't feel that I would be competitive there (MCAT score). I'd prefer the east coast, but the other schools seem nice too, although I haven't toured any of them yet on-campus. Geographic reason for many reasons but primarily that I don't want to be too far from home (my university right now is 20 minutes from home) and that my significant other will most likely be attending Pharmacy School at USP next year.

Achilles23: Thanks for the advice regarding admissions. I feel a little better now. I just got swept up after joining the boards and seeing so many posts about interviews/acceptances already.

dtrack22: Did you actually think before you started flaming me? If you must know, I haven't had as much time at looking at schools as others such as yourself. Having to work full time to pay for school, while pursuing a dual degree as well as multiple family emergencies have compromised my situation a bit, especially with two family members undergoing chemotherapy, for which I have to care for in almost all my free-time. I hope you feel better about yourself now

hey everyones got problems and dont listen to people being jerks on here to you because they have no idea your situation nor should you have to explain yourself to anyone on here to begin with...if only people would just ask questions and answer them/comment politely-but that will never happen-good luck on the east coast! hope your family things get better :luck:

Time? what does that have to do with it? This is a two minute phone call to one the school of your choice's admissions office. They are incredibly helpful and are more than happy to answer any of your questions (including when to apply) and will even set you up with a local pod.

You are right, you are the only one who has to deal with this. None of us had to work full-time while attending school. Don't complain about the dual degree because that was your choice, just like I don't complain about football taking up all of my time outside of school (it was my choice to play and I don't have a full ride, so I have to work unlike some of my teammates).

I hope you feel better about yourself now

I could care less to be perfectly honest. Your entire reply was one big excuse. Podiatry is not something you can jump into without knowing what you are getting into. You most likely haven't done any shadowing (required by most if not all schools). I say that only because of your initial question. It shows that you know very little about podiatry school itself (which is fine for students who are a year or two away from applying. I thought they were MD's before reading this forum since I had never been to one) and makes me think you were pre-something harder and decided to jump ship to podiatry, so to speak. I hope I'm wrong, since it'll do nothing but continue to give pod school a bad rap. You will be taking the same curriculum as your med school friends...I hope you could keep up with them in undergrad.

I was just about to say that. Nice 👍

This actually reminds me of this weeks scrubs episode. Season 8 is awesome.

Wow, just a bit judgmental & assumptive. Not to mention the equally ubiquitous condescending tone throughout. My, my, & you're ONLY a prepod? Where did you learn such ingratiating ways to assist a fellow student looking into the profession? Damn, bro...what's up with that action?

I mean we all get in pissy moods from time to time but you've been in one since you began posting here it seems, eh?

This is just completely silly. It makes me giggle a bit actually.

Don't listen to this silliness, who the hell cares what some random person online thinks! You owe this person no explanation whatsoever. (I've noticed that there's a lot of judgment that goes on in these forums, which is just completely ridiculous. Acting that way does not make one a better physician or a positive contribution to society.) The only person you ever need to answer to is YOU of course!

Anyway, it's not too late to apply, so go for it if it's what you want! And good luck 🙂 Let us know how things go!!

i feel like every new thread ends up with someone being berated for either not knowing enough about podiatry or because the question has been asked before. While I can understand how this can be annoying, we don't need to fight about it and polite responses will suffice. I think constructive criticism is okay, but some of these threads are getting downright rude and are a waste of time. And besides, what else are we going to talk about? All the good questions have seem to have been addressed.

so what, you're a prepod too

I'm backing up dtrack22 on this one. The entire post was just a big excuse. All of the things that were written were voluntary. Well, except the family emergencies. But still, is that person the first one ever to have family emergencies while applying to schools? All it takes is a quick stop to the school's website, a call, anything!

I usually help new people here and when a previously answered question is asked again, I would just usually direct them to the old thread. But this? No way.

yeah, i gotta side with dtrack.
everyone knows the saying about excuses, regardless of how valid they are. not everybody is dealt a fair hand in life. it is amazing to look at the pre-MD forum and see the large number of daily posts basically saying "i am a sophomore and my first year was hard because of problems with familymembers/adjusting/working/personal health. I got a C in gen chem and a 2.00 overall. What are my chances?"

And I'm backing up Bahaa, Scrubs is an amazing tv show. If you like Scrubs, read House of God...much more cynical but equally entertaining 😀

That is, if you have the time...

so what, you're a prepod too
Least I don't act like a complete, utter, supremacist-attitude jackass per post. Know your place in the pecking order. Any pre here should be respectful of other pre's, no?

The answer to your question is no...not all pre-pods are created equally. I did find out why gym man was so quick to jump to roninishya's defense. Found your thread that was absolutely blasted by current pod students, residents, and attendings (and rightfully so)...http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=553342

I never said I didn't hear crap for posts in the past (which is not relevant to YOUR attack-posters style anyway but nice try..). But if I had the desire, I'd look for more stuff you said. This isn't personal until you make it so by attacking this poster or OP. Read the last post defending me in that thread you quoted by the way. I don't step out of line to challenge anyone. You do & that's a TOS violation, don't you think everyone?

Good gods! This is so ridiculous! 😴

These boards are meant to HELP people!

Have you ever thought about using all this time you seem to have to research and then grump at other members on this board to do something useful for society? Volunteer at a soup kitchen, knit caps and take them to a cancer ward, clean up a beach, take flowers to someone in a nursing home who doesn't have any family... there are SO MANY things! And before you ask, yes, I do things of this nature on a regular basis.

No, it's not too late to apply...

Maybe this thread should be closed with that haha...

Hahaha, but I can't help this but..why don't you change your name here to "Tai-Chi" & shorten it? Be easier on my eyes, huh? lol

I can't help seeing/thinking that every time I see your name. No harm, no foul. I'm messing w/ ya & don't take crap so serious. Post away & voice yourself - every other smack seems to here. I still think this ought to be closed. Umm, yo mods? Little help here, eh?

Theta Chi is a fraternity so thats why and I don't know how to change the screename even if i wanted to so yeah...and the reason I have not posted much is because this entire forum is like 70% trolls that get on here with the intention to either piss people off or to crucify someone for what they write. It's really not worth my time to come on here and be attacked-i hold out hope though because every 2/7 or so threads seem to be somewhat useful 🙂

What exactly is trolling? Just running around talking smack? I've seen people banned for it. I'm just curious. Thanks

Heh, thanks for not bringing up the 49ers. It was much better to be a niners fan in the 80s and 90s...

wow, this forum is way better than the pre-pharm forum. :claps:
