Hi everyone,
I am in a bit of a dilemna now and need some major advice. I just saw my Fall 2010 grades now and got a D in physics lecture and a B in physics lab (there separate course at my school-UIC). So I know most schools want a C or above in pre-reqs, but I was wondering if combining my grades of D & B would get me a C and I wouldn't have to retake it again? I really don't want to take it again, since this is my senior year and I'm graduating next semester. Most of the schools I am applying to only want physics I, so if i retake it next semester, I can still graduate on time, but I don't think i'll get accepted with a D on my transcript (it's my only one), right??????
So my dilemna is I already submitted my CASPA and sent in 2 supplementals, and am waiting to send the other ones. Should I even bother to send them? Will I automatically get rejected for the D on my transcript? Ahhhhhh don't know what to do, I've wasted money on applying, so might as well continue with it, right??? I wasn't expecting this grade at all, very surprised by it 🙁

If they're 2 different classes, they don't get averagedfor your physics GPA, but even if they did it would be like 3 credits of a D and 1 credit for a B. I think that would still be D+ or C-. The lecture would be weighted heavier. You wouldn't be auto rejected, but you may get a conditional acceptance and still need to retake. I would just retake next semester with a different teacher.

Would the two classes even average out to a C? Assuming that lecture is 3 credits and lab is 1, the combined GPA would only be 1.5.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you get a D in the lecture but a B in lab? Poor test scores and a lot of absences?

The lecture is 4 credits and lab is 1 credit. The lecture grade consists of only 2 test scores, which I got a high C on the first one, D on the second one and don't know about the final. I thought I did well, but who knows. I kinda think it was a mistake since a lot of people were doing worse than me, but I have to ask my teacher about that. Also the lab section is based off labs and quizzes, which I got A's and B's on.
At this point, I will still submit my supplements, because all the schools I am applying to only require Physics I, so I still have a shot and my major doesn't require me to take physics II, so I can still graduate on time. I am just bummed since I never got this grade in my life.🙁 I mostly got B's and a few (3) C's.

Physics is hard for some people, myself included. However, a decent amount of the stuff you learn in physics is related to pharmaceutics, etc. So getting a grasp on it now is a good idea. Retake the lecture!

Like what?

Our physics professors (we had 2 at my CC) were awful, and I'd heard very few positive reviews about the one at the local university. I had to file a grade appeal when I took physics. I was second in the class, and he failed me. Only 1 person out of 24 passed. His grading was all over the place, his teaching was awful, and he hated all non-engineering majors.

Physics left a bad taste in my mouth, so good riddance.

Directly, viscosity and mechanics were discussed in my pharmaceutics class and it was helpful to have already learned them. Indirectly, physics helped me learn to manipulate and combine formulas, and that helped me a lot in pharmaceutics as well, I think.
