Well some of took the PCAT years after we took general chemistry and any math class so some of us had to study. Reviewing the material and doing a lot of practice problems is really what helped me.

Big difference between reviewing and cramming... also a big difference between reviewing and trying to teach yourself to new material...

Well I kind of crammed in my review lol I know I should have started reviewing earlier but I procrastinated and did it all at the last minute.

But I don't think anyone takes the pcat without taking the basics (gen chem, having some math, orgo 1, bio) so you really don't have to teach yourself anything. I think the only thing people might teach themselves is orgo (which is doable) and maybe some of the anatomy/physiology part of the bio section (which is harder).

Try browsing the PCAT section of these forums sometime... or look at the OP's response to me when I said without knowing how much biology/physiology you've had and since you'll only be in OChem 1 you may find the PCAT to be very hard...

I'm referring mostly the many posters on this forum that are woefully unprepared for the PCAT but feel like they have to try applying for the term immediately after they finish the bare minimum pre reqs to get in - and then complain because the do bad on the PCAT - the ones that think cramming Dr. Collins and/or the Kaplan prep course will prepare them as well as or better than another year of undergraduate science courses...

Kaplan prep courses can be good for the people who are terrible at standardized testing. I never tried Collins but I heard from some people on this board that the practice questions are really good and helpful. Of course I'd rather buy a couple review books and spend a total of $50 but whatever floats your boat.

What kind of system are you on, and what would be a full course load?

five courses per semester maximum. my first semester of calc is only worth half which is why it works out to a wonky 70%. once you get in they add extra courses every year though.

Currently taking:

Gchem II
Anatomy
Calc I
Microecon
Gchem I (TA)

Next semester I am looking at:

Ochem I
Calc 2
Physics
Physio

So after the spring semester I am hoping to take the PCAT in June '11 and apply in the Fall '11.

Currently taking:

Human Anatomy (w/ lab)
Gen Bio I (w/ lab)
Speech

I really want to take Chinese 2, but I don't know if I can handle the load considering I work half-time and I'm not Chinese.

Just finished my B.S. in Biochemistry, but I am taking Organic I w/ Lab and Microbiology since I got poor grades in these 2 classes and they are weighing down my GPA big time.

Should be simple since I am only going to be working part time and re-taking these 2 classes which I've already passed.

Good luck to everyone this semester.
