I would like some feedback on my schedule for the upcoming Fall term, as well as any advice that anyone may have to offer:

Genetics
Genetics Lab
Organic Chemistry I
Organic Chemistry Lab
Organic Chemistry Workshop
Calculus II

~14.00 Credits

Has anyone had a schedule similar to this and done well? I attained A's in every term of General Chemistry, General Biology, and Calculus I. Thank you very much.

It's only three classes so it should be quite manageable. What's Organic Workshop?

Totally do-able. I took 21 credits one term. I wanted to die. 14 is a nice number, kind of on the low side actually. Manage your time well and you will be fine.

Thanks for the prompt response chemist16! Organic Workshop is recitation more or less, it is referred to as workshop at my institution. Also, do you think 14 credits is too little? Should I consider adding another course or play it safe and strive for A's in organic ( although I will strive for A's regardless).

It all depends on what you think you're capable of. I'd say four courses is average. Was there something else you wanted to take? Genetics will probably take most of your time with Orgo being a close second. Calc II is pretty simple so should take minimal time.

I think that I am capable of succeeding with the course load that I have listed above bearing in mind my performance in prerequisite courses. I was considering tacking on a humanities course such as art, music, history etc. (as they are gen. ed requirements) b/c the I don't want it to look like I took too few courses to ease the burden of organic in the eyes of adcoms when I apply.

Your schedule looks solid, if you dedicate the time to your courses (esp Orgo) I think you will be good! To answer your Q, when I took Orgo 1 I was in Calc 2 and three non-science classes for 19 credits, and I was able to manage well. Just make sure you're on top of Orgo day 1 and it won't be bad! Best of luck!

I would take an additional 1-2 credit elective course for two reasons, it shows competency across different disciplines simultaneously, and it shows balance. Plus if you pick something fun, it could be a nice break. Maybe a nature walk based ecology or a guitar class? The adcoms appreciate it!

I had more than one semester with only 14 credits and did fine, I don't think they care that much. Just ace those classes!

I'd throw in some elective that won't be overly challenging, but I don't think it would be problematic not to.

there's no reason to add more courses. 14 credits is enough. and o-chem is a problem for many, don't overload your schedule!
