Falling out with Lab PI...should i stay or go?

I had a semi- falling out with my PI today because i notified her too late i was not going to be able to make it in today. I have been with this lab for a year, and basically we just type and do data input, i have gotten nothing out of working there...the only reason im staying is so i can say i did a year of research. I was planning on staying there to get a recommendation letter, but seriously if they are upset with me because i let them know i wouldnt be available to input data because oh no going to a review session so i can do better in my class kind of takes priority over doing bitchwork for them, then im not sure these are people i want writing my letter. So what do you guys think, should i stay or should i go?
BTW i have another research project i did which im getting a publication from.

Well if you're doing the research, and you're not enjoying it, then change your labs. Research isn't required for med school; it just helps. There's a lot of other things you can do for your application that you might enjoy. Do stuff because you care for it, and that'll make it easier for your med school application to talk about.

👍 Agree. Believe it or not, at no point should you be required to make yourself miserable in the name of an extracurricular. Sounds like you've already got some research; walk away if you don't want to continue.

Thirded. Plus, at least by your description, this doesn't sound like meaningful research. Most adcoms can see through that in a second, and if that's the case, it doesn't matter that you have it listed. Just my $0.02

Find something you want to be doing. If you like something you'll be good at it and push yourself, and if you do that, it'll look great on an app.

I feel like this a story that plays out ad naseum on these pre-med boards.

Chill out. If you don't like your research, then why are you doing it? During interviews, they will ask you to elaborate on your research possibly. The admissions staff will be able to tell if you enjoyed your research or you did it just to say "I did research." If you are interested in a research career, then find a lab you will like and stick with it. Do it only if you want to.
